Covent garden restaurant recommendations?

any recommendations for a post-theatre dinner after a matinee performance nearish Covent garden? (Novello theatre). Not too expensive, but maybe somewhere that is just a bit different than the chain places, and not super crowded (taking my Mum who finds it hard to hear in a really busy place). Happy to walk a bit to somewhere slightly more out of the way if needed. A theatre fixed-price menu is fine, even though we aren't rushing off to an evening performance (or maybe we should wait til evening performances have started and everything gets quieter!).

Brasserie zedel downstairs, it’s beautiful and quiet. We got a walk in table for 4 as a pre evening theatre meal.but you can book.

I went to Masala Zone on Friday night. Excellent if you like a really authentic Indian.

Ooh, lunch menu looks pretty good too. I'll be reserving a table next week!

Cinnamon Bazaar is nice!

The Ivy Market Grill is nice too but it’s a chain on many market town high streets so you might not find it’s exactly what you’re looking for.

Also I love Brasserie Zedel, but when it’s busy it is loud - depends if you mean a weekday or a Saturday.

Bimbleberries · 26/03/2023 19:30

Thanks for all the suggestions so far! Some of the fixed price menus look a bit more reaslitic price-wise than the main menus.

I'm googling as we speak.

It would be for a weekday, but during school holidays but hopefully not a place that is necessarily popular with families

Din Tai Fung https://dintaifung-uk.com/

There soup dumplings are divine and I could exist on their pork and egg fried rice. They do a pre-theatre menu but just selecting your own works best for us.

Clos Maggiore, it's stunning inside.

Is Tuttons still going?

Sarastro

The Deli at Petersham Nurseries, though depends on what you’re looking for as it might not be formal enough. Fab food and drink though and nice surroundings.

Thanks, looking all these up.

Not wanting something particularly formal at all, just nice food for someone who has rarely been to London!

Another thought is that something close to King's Cross would work as well, as it's near the train, though less likely to get a good value theatre menu I guess.

Aw! Joe Allen is not what it once was. ☹️

Hawksmoor do a 2/3 course menu for £26-29 if you enjoy steak. The thali at Masala zone is a full 2 course meal in 1 and quite cheap for lunch at £16-18 (I'm Indian and love it.) Think Gunpowder do a theatre menu now too - more modern Indian cooking. Bocca di Lupo is a fabulous Italian with a set menu. Must say theatre menus are not the value for money they used to be pre covid!

Le Garrick in Garrick St near Covent Garden. Do a pre theatre menu too
