Mulling the difference between a cheap rug and an expensive rug.

I'm refurbishing my lounge and want an extra-large wine-red rug. I was expecting to pay up to around £500, or more if necessary. I like both of these, but one is cheaper than expected at £129 (100% Polypropylene Pile) and the other well over budget at £950 (100% machine woven Wool). Perhaps if I keep on looking I'll find something very similar in between these two prices, but as I'm shopping online, they will probably all look just as good as each other. So I'm counting on Mumsnet to give me a steer ... If you have bought a Polypropylene Pile rug, are you happy with it? Is wool worth paying extra for? Might there be a hybrid synthetic/wool option at an in between price? If so, is there a particular search term I could use to find it?

It depends who’s in the household. Polypropylene is easy to clean if the dog’s sick on it: you can use bleach on it.

Wool would probably last longer.

Until you get carpet moths.

OP I switched from wool to synthetic fibres because moths don't eat them and so so much easier to clean

Moths! All my wool rugs were wrecked very quickly by moths. Maybe you’re not in a moth area, but they are rife where I am.

The one on the left looks unappealingly cheap to me. On the other hand we've also fallen victim
to the dreaded moths.

I like the one on the left better
Does it feel nice to touch ?

Well in my humble experience, the cat prefers to puke on an expensive rug!!
Had cheap ones for years, then treated myself to a beautiful, duck egg blue, pure wool rug. Cost a lot.
Cat spent night one, two and three trying to shred it. Day 4.. puke.
By month two she had pretty much ruined it.

Now back to a cheap one!!

So if you have pets... get a cheap one!!!
