Crappy "men saviour" films

I'm a bit pissed

So many films are entirely based around the "NAMALT" premise, and the existence of the (gorgeous and/or clever) man who puts right the many heinous wrongs of the "other men" -
How the fuck do men arrive at this fantasy? That a bunch of men rape/fight/plot/lie/thieve, and them oooh how wonderful, a decent man, untainted by the same culture, comes along, whose word is his bond, whose love is real, and whose arm always fights for right.

What utter utter bollocks

Are they?

Bananalanacake · 25/03/2023 19:47

Can you give some examples, all I can think of is Shallow Hal, which I really enjoyed.

BlueBananaLlama · 25/03/2023 19:47

I thought this was going to be You’ve Got Mail.

LakeTiticaca · 25/03/2023 20:01

I bet your a barrel of laughs at parties 😉

Ozgirl75 · 25/03/2023 20:05

I can’t think of a single film I’ve ever watched like this, let alone multiple. Maybe watch different films?

anythinginapinch · 25/03/2023 20:15

Hmm

I'm watching Son of Saul so that's hard core I guess

But so many:- plane with baddies, all men - decent bloke saves day.

Political wrongdoers all male, decent bloke saves day

I’m not sure - I mean, most men aren’t rapists, plane baddies or political wrongdoers. Do you mean that the “goodies” are too “good” and not multi faceted enough?

Ozgirl75 · 25/03/2023 20:30

Or alternately, I’m sorry that most men you’ve come into contact with aren’t good men. In my circle, I don’t know any “bad” men - every man I know is a good and decent man!

ShinyAppleDreamingOfTheSea · 25/03/2023 21:41

Well if you are watching films with men in them - it's quite likely some are going to be 'goodies' and others 'baddies' . Can't quite tell if you are only watching one genre of film that you seem to dislike, or you just generally have a downer on men.

Actually I could totally understand your issue if you were complaining about the portrayal of women in films - ditzy romances and victims mainly .

Perhaps it would be good to come up with some recommendations for films with strong female characters?

anythinginapinch · 25/03/2023 22:12

I watch a hue repertoire of films. Have sons, DP a I quite like men!

But I stick with my point. Bad men fuck up then NAMALT swings into action. And this lets "men" as a class off the hook

This is about how men get to look heroic because namalt.

It's like a drip feed that " shitty things happen (by men) by Mr Hero saves the day.

Well, if it weren't for the fact that there are good men in the world, life would have ceased to exist long before we'd got as far as 500,000 BCE, as it sure as hell couldn't have been just Neanderthal women protecting the unequivocally disabled people showing clear evidence of healed severe injuries.

GettingThereCharleyBear · 25/03/2023 22:31

There are lots of good men in the world. It’s an odd point. I don’t really understand.

Sux2buthen · 25/03/2023 22:42

It's just a good versus bad plot then isn't it. The good guy is bound to be a...well, a good guy.

anythinginapinch · 25/03/2023 23:30

Yea the good guy is the "good guy" - my chat I guess is, so oft n the "good guy" is battling against all the bad guy's leading to !
Namalt

As Bananalanacake asked, please give a few examples.
