I have had some great suggestions for podcasts, which I am really enjoying, but I'm in bed most of the time, and really want something "live" first thing in the morning, just to feel like I am in contact with the real world, not isolated in my own tiny bubble.

something interesting, current, not too heavy

What is there?

I'm a 5live or radio 4 person myself.

Radio 4 is actually turning out to be more entertaining and informative than I thought. I maybe ought to think of that first, rather than as a last resort

What 5live like?

Radio 4 here, surprisingly entertaining with it's breadth of stories. @Nimbostratus100 Had a similar thought process re: LBC!

Usually radio 4 except I switch to LBC for the 8.30 sport and 8.50 tedious thought for the day. Used to love LBC but now it's Nick chortling away and then James banging on about gammon and Brexit and 'you have a nice day. Mind how you go' before inviting sycophancy from his fans.

TravellingSpoon · 25/03/2023 08:05

Ive switched to Radio 4 too. I got to the point where I could not stand Nick muttering when people are talking.

I do switch back for my drive home though because I do like Sheila/Tom (depending on what time I'm driving back).

5live is a bit lighter and faster paced in the mornings moving between news items Quickly. And I like it overnight especially the Colin Murray show late evenings in the week, which is light entertainment. I also like Rick Edwards and Rachel Burden in the mornings and Nicky Campbell's phone in debate show 9-11 usually unless the topic is boring in which case I switch off.
There is a fair bit of sports commentary and analysis especially over the weekend but I quite like that too-though others may not.

Radio 4 in the house. In the car I tend to listen to music (Jazz fm).

indigovapour · 25/03/2023 08:33

5live is ok - it moves along at a reasonable pace. Sometimes the way the BBC interprets balance (ie no presenter must ever express any opinion about anything) is tedious though - I like most of the presenters and they seem reasonably intelligent so sometimes it'd be nice to actually hear what they think about an issue. At least you get that on LBC.

stbrandonsboat · 25/03/2023 08:35

Radio 3, but I listen to avoid the miserable news which seems to be even more miserable and awful these days.

Reinventinganna · 25/03/2023 08:37

Radio 2. Zoe ball is good in the morning.

wow, quite a lot of choice then, I am going to try all of these, thank you
