Charities/organisations who can temporarily look after a dog? - MIL has passed away

Is there such an organisation out there? I want to make sure we do the best for MIL's beloved dog. Unfortunately we can't take her immediately as we have a dog who isn't friendly with other dogs. I don't think BIL will take her as his wife doesn't like dogs. I would be willing to look at moving somewhere with an annex so we could potentially find a work around to keep both dogs, but obviously that is a longer term solution.

MIL was lovely and like a second Mum to me and I hate to think of her dog pining for her.

Changingplace · 24/03/2023 22:56

Sorry for your loss, try the Cinnamon Trust they might be able to help.

Cinnamon trust might, but not sure if they do temporary. Any local rescue might foster or rehome.

what kind of dog is it/what area of the country?

NotCopingWell1 · 24/03/2023 22:58

Yes what area? We have a local charity who do this but no good if you're further out.

It’s a dog! Much better to get a new home for it.

PinkBuffalo · 24/03/2023 23:03

I was also going to suggest cinnamon trust
sorry for you loss op 💐

My mother took on a dog when my aunt died. Dog had a lovely second owner.

German Shepherd and we're in Yorkshire.

Of course this is also an option, but I don't want to hand her over to just anyone. DH and I were both raised that pets are part of the family, so she's not just a dog to us. DH also cares about the dog and his Mum has said before if anything happens to her to make sure her dog has a good life. I don't want DH to feel forced into making a rash decision whilst he's grieving.

@JonahAndTheSnail
I'm so sorry for your loss.
We've been thinking about getting another rescue GSD so do let me know if you're stuck. We're in Yorks too.

They will if they have a suitable volunteer willing to help in the area, we temporarily fostered a dog through them before.

try breed specific rescues too, they often have foster people

sorry for your loss
