Interview outfit

I'm so excited. This is absolutely the perfect job for me and I have a second interview.

I'm going to wear a smart navy dress with a pale(ish) blue checked/tweed jacket, but shoes?

The job's in London and my journey will involve quite a bit of walking. I gave up heels years ago and usually wear flat pumps or boots for work and whilst I can completely see that things have moved on and heels aren't worn in many situations where they used to be almost compulsory, I'm still not sure my usual shoes are smart enough for an interview. I can't wear new shoes, so my choices are:

  • Smart flat knee highboots
  • patent ballet pumps
  • low block heel ankle boots
  • mid height block heeled shoes with strap

I fear the block heeled shoes are most suitable, but they're also the most uncomfortable and I wouldn't usually wear them if I'm to be on my feet much.

Wwyd?

Oh, it's a director level office based job if that makes a difference. Not as formal as Law.

I think ballet flats would look good with that outfit and be comfy.

Have you got space in your bag to carry the block heels and travel in the ballet shoes and then swap them?

Just wear trainers and swap into smart shoes when you get there. That's what people do all the time

MoneyInTheBananaStand · 24/03/2023 20:55

What colour are the shoes?

Schmutter · 24/03/2023 20:59

Not ballet flats. No one has ever looked good in them.

nuttynet · 25/03/2023 09:51

I would go ankle boots

Knee high not professional and ballet pumps are
Too casual

Go for the smartest, and change into trainers after the interview

Seen someone on Instagram wearing these sling backs from M&S which might be a possibility although I'm not sure if the colour would work with the jacket you're planning?

If the block heeled shoes are the most suitable wear those - and either take a taxi to the interview or travel in something more comfortable and change on arrival.
