Were away next week and for 2 or 3 days our 9 month old dog is going to a doggy day care kennels the website looks lovely, clean, great recommendations and lots of space to run around and his own pen.
Im just concerned his going to be really upset and will know, will he ?? Its literally the only option we have

He might be a bit upset but with kindness and doggy treats he will be OK. Just be prepared for the excitement when he sees you again. Our dog was so excited when we picked her up after our hols that she poohed and wee'd 😆

About five years ago, on a trip 100's of miles away from home, hottest day of the year, our dog got spooked on our walk by a drone, and bolted.

Couldn't find her. We were beside ourselves, she was a timid, nervous Velcro dog by nature. Some other walkers joined us in the search, and one put out a Facebook post. After a few of the longest hours of my life, they got a call to say a similar dog had been found in a nearby village. It took us 25 mins to drive to the location, and I couldn't imagine the state she would be in.

Got there, and the little bloody madam was living her best life, playing fetch with a pebble with the people who'd found her (she'd taken herself to a local beer garden!)

TL:DR The moral of the story is your dog will probably be fine Grin

would you be able to send her for just one day at day care first to get her comfortable with the place and the surroundings and then she will know that you are coming back for her as you did last time too. I would have recommended doing this for more than one time before an over night but if you’re going away next week even one day would help!

I would think he will know something is different but if it is doggy daycare he will make lots of friends and be happy. You have found somewhere that you feel comfortable leaving him. He will be fine. We had to take our cat to a vet in another city for a specialized treatment and leave him there for a week. We fretted the entire time he was gone, thinking he was feeling abandoned and wondering where we were. When we got him back home he didn’t even seem to remember he had been gone! It’s us that have more of a problem than they do.

We use kennels for the odd overnight or weekend. DDog is very clingy usually and goes absolutely bonkers when we pick him up. He also doesn't really eat much while he's there. However, they are lovely people, they tell you how the dog has been - they will say he was a bit quiet but enjoyed his walks - I don't think they are glossing over and pretending he was happy as larry. They also post photos on their social media (with our consent) and he's always tail up and interacting with the other dogs in those photos so I'm not too worried.

I don't love leaving him there but we don't have anyone (friends or family) that we can ask so its our only option and he honestly is fine if a bit knackered when he comes home.
