iPhone help pleeeeease

I've inherited an iPhone 12, great lovely whatever.
Been Android since the dawn of time so obvs there's gonna be some getting used to BUT despite it being SIM unlocked, and despite it saying it is corrected to talk mobile, I cannot for the love of god connect for data, calls etc.
I've googled it, I've asked my 17 year old. I'm off on to work where there are a number of youngsters who may be able to help but is it just a case of over 40s shouldn't have iPhones???
Can anyone understand what I mean?
Please help me, I'm carrying three phones around (broken phone, work phone, iPhone, absolutely ridiculous)

Have you tried resetting to factory and starting from the beginning?

if it has someone else’s settings buried somewhere it may be easier than going through everything to find it

I'm in my 60s and have an iPhone. Perhaps you are just incompetent (as well as ageist)

BlueSpark · 24/03/2023 13:15

You're not connected to a network. You have no signal or wifi.

Where you have network selection mine says Tesco. I think you need to click on that and share the screen you see after.

You may either need to get the phone unlocked or get a sim that is on the same network as the phone.

xogossipgirlxo · 24/03/2023 13:18

Can you choose network? I compared with mine and this bit is missing on your phone, like you're not connected to any.

StonwEd · 24/03/2023 13:41

Yes I can choose network. It just doesn't work!

Cheers Mrspinkhat, another delight. I know you can't read sarcasm/tone on here, but Jesus there are some posters (not including the apology poster now) on multiple threads that are just VILE.
I hate posting on Mumsnet, there's such hated out there.
Fwiw I love everyone, I hope even the nasty posters have wonderful days.
I'm neither incompetent nor ageist but I am perfectly able to make fun of myself. Despite a long time on web chat to both services, the problem has failed to be resolved so I shall spend part of my trip to London in store tomorrow to see if they can help.

Those of you that can even turn hideous on such an innocuous thread, I truly truly feel sad for you.

Cheers everyone

Screenshot is pointless. If over 40s shouldn't have iphones, why can't your 17 year old help you? Don't be so stupidly ageist, it's not doing you any favours.

You're unpleasant. Do you feel better now you've tried to upset someone who was making a lighthearted post?

Take the day off @mrspinkhat. No need for that at all.

StonwEd · 25/03/2023 14:08

Well, the update you're all waiting for I'm sure.
Took it to the Apple store on regent Street. Turns out when my daughter briefly lost it and it was handed in to police it was marked as lost or stolen and now cannot be used.
They gave it back to her and she had already bought another one
So, that's a her problem and I'm back to no phone again!!
At least I know I'm not incompetent 🤪

My son had a similar problem with his iPhone 12. Couldn't connect to wifi or mobile data. It was a software issue that Apple couldn't fix. Luckily it was under 12 months old so still covered by the warranty and they gave him a new phone.

BlueSpark · 25/03/2023 14:30

What??!!!! So once it's marked as lost it's forever unusable?

BlueSpark · 25/03/2023 14:33

You've actually just reminded me... DD rang us a few weeks back saying she lost her phone so DH marked it as lost on find my iPhone. However, he marked her old one not her current. I've just gone in and removed it. I would screenshot but it's personal data. Ask her if she can log in and mark as found.

BlueSpark · 25/03/2023 14:34

Although it still has a lock symbol on the list in find my iPhone but also the ability to mark as lost again. When I get home I might have to charge it and find out.

Badbudgeter · 25/03/2023 14:41

She should be bc able to login and unlock it with Apple ID password.
