Ferritin level - hair loss

My hair was shedding and I was diagnosed with telegon effluvium. My bloods were tested and ferritin was 37. Through diet and tablets I got it re tested 3 months later and it’s now 155. My hair loss has slowed but still more than I’d like.

I’m just not sure if I should continue to take the tablets now it’s at this level. Or maybe just when I’m on my period. Does anyone have experience? I don’t want to risk my hair getting worse again.

I had an iron infusion as I couldn’t be bothered pissing around with tablets for months on end. I did have heavy bleeding, hence, the anemia and hair loss. My hair loss did slow down and stop.

Not the worst but it does affect my digestion. I guess I also didn’t want to be over the recommended level in case that has unintended consequences.

I mean getting an infusion sounds like a lot more effort than just swallowing a pill every day..

Have you been checked for Coeliac disease OP?
DS lost all his eyelashes from Coeliac disease causing low iron.

I’ve not been tested for that, had a load of vitamins and hormones and only the ferritin was out. I might just switch to a lower dose

My ferretin was 5, I was called by the hospital and told to go in for an iron infusion, been unwell for months, my GP is useless, was picked up while being treated for a dvt!

My GP said it’s fine to take iron long term. I did a few months of full dosage to get my ferritin back up and stop hair shedding. Since then I’ve aimed to take one pill a day (was three) when I go to bed. I often forget but I think of it as a maintenance dose.

What tablets do you take? I take 1 ferrograd C a day but they are strong
