QUICK HELP - court soon to get CCJ set aside

i got rejected for credit recently and it turns out a CCJ was entered in December at an address I lived in 12 years ago!! I only found out when I checked my credit score.

I don’t know what it’s about but I’ve applied to set it aside and I’m in court in an hour. I have documents to show my address history but I’m freaking out - does anyone have any advice on what to do? The hearing is 35 minutes long

I’m not sure on your specific situation, but wish you good luck.

If it’s within the last 12 years and you have proof you haven’t lived there then possibly identity fraud taking place? Do you have electoral roll details to prove your current address for the past 12 years?

Unfortunately, debts are sneaky. Could it have been an old account?

I had a very old ee account (10+ years old) at a previous house I lived at, who traced me to current property, who had consulted a solicitor after the 10 years and they threatened me with a ccj (have clean credit history) I always thought if 6 years had passed (with no contact from you) they couldn’t obtain a ccj, but they were sending me a last notice before intended court hearing, so I settled for a small amount (debt was £800, I settled for £170) as couldn’t be arsed with the hassle of a ccj. And it then lasting 6 years on my credit file.

Martin Lewis website has lots of useful info on for stuff like this!

Good luck. I’ve done it. First hearing was just to reopen the case and then I had to go back for the actual debt hearing.

It got set aside 😁
It is a debt older than 6 years so I’m contesting it now

well done. For most people court is a scary experience.

Mine was a council tax one, so not within the 6 year remit. I did have loads of proof in my favour, the council, none. It just got dropped. I hope yours is too. It’s very stressful isn’t it.
