Has anyone been made redundant on maternity leave or straight after maternity leave?

If so do you know how redundancy payment works, is it tax free? And does the notice period run during your maternity rather than afterwards?

I took voluntary redundancy whilst on Mat leave.

had to end my mat leave, losing a few weeks of SMP but worth it in my case. £30k of my redundancy settlement was tax free. Nowadays pay in lieu of notice is taxable. You can’t be paid notice pay at the same time as SMP.

They will end your maternity but should pay you any outstanding SMP owed as a lump sum you should also be paid any outstanding holiday entitlement accrued during maternity / not taken
I think my redundancy payment was taxed if I can remember I was also paid my notice which I didn’t work
hope this helps - if you think they are not doing things above board take advice maternity is protected so you shouldn’t be made redundant just because you are on maternity
