Toddler cries when I collect him (happily?)

Has anyone else had this?

At least half the time I pick my toddler (15 months) up from nursery, he spots me coming the bursts into tears.

The staff bring him over and he cuddles into me, immediately settles and seems fine again.

He really enjoys nursery so I think he’s maybe a bit overcome with seeing me? The staff think it’s cute so I assume it’s not unusual, but I’m not 100% sure.

It isn't unusual. Think it's just them expressing a big feeling/emotion in the only way they can.

one of mine did this the first time I took him to nursery - I put it down to relief, that he hasn’t really understood I was coming back and was pleased I had.

I made me feel like shit! But that may have been all in my head.

i did lots of ‘mummy always come back’ reassurance stuff and fortunately it stopped.

I was told it could be relief that you're there

Yeah I was hoping he’s just relieved he hasn’t been abandoned lol!

I’ve been able to see him before he sees me and he’ll be sitting there quite happily having a snack, doing songs etc. The staff will say “oh! Who’s that?” and it’s instant tears when he turns around.

I’ll take it as a compliment. 😁

My toddler, also 15 months, does the same. She will be happy as larry as I watch through the window, as soon as they point me out to her, she cries immediately!! I put it down to overwhelming feelings. She is always smiling by the time she comes out with her coat on
