ID for 18 - which one??

DS is turning 18 soon and thought it would be nice to get his ID card for him to give on the day.

I've never had an ID because I'm old and in my day we never used them. I didn't realise there would be various options - provisional licence, PASS card, Citizen Card...maybe others?! He has no interest in driving at the moment. Is there one type of ID that's more popular than the others, what are the differences?

Or what do you/your ds/dd use?

I would get the provisional driving license. Never heard of the others.

We’ve just got a provisional licence for our 17 year old. I gather though that unless you have an in date passport, that’s it’s a complete pain to do.

Provisional driving licence and then there is no chance anywhere can refuse to accept it

Just get a provisional licence, just got one for DS.

Great, thanks everyone, provisional it is!

Just a thought. I had a chat with DD recently, she said she actually looks forward to being able to apply for an ID on her own. She sees it as a ride of passage.

So, depending how your DS is, it may backfire if you do it.
