Credit reference agencies?

Credit reference agencies, does anyone think that they should be regulated more?
for example companies can report what they want weather it’s true or not and virtually nothing can be done?

for eg I know of two people that were reported as missing payments and in arrears, when this was not the case and they refused to do anything about it ( they equifax)

The company involved happened to be a debt collector long story short, but I was very ill for a while and could not pay my bill, it got sent to a debt collector and they have been reporting me as been in arrears and none payment yet I have proof I have paid and I’m not arrears.
so I’m asking if anyone knows if these CRAs are regulated.
iv tried ombudsman but they lie to the ombudsmen I have no idea how to prove that they are lying though.

Equifax are correct not to do anything about it. The company who reported it need to change it.

As it's with a debt collector, you may need to go back to the original creditor.

Did you pay the original creditor, rather than the debt collector, but after the debt collector had bought the debt? That tends to be the reason that it falls "through the cracks".

Yes the original creditor had been paid it’s complicated, because the debt was bought from the original creditor who recognises I was keeping up with my agreement.
then they sold it to another debt collector who have been bastards.
I spoke to the original creditor who confirmed I was not in arrears or missing payments yet they said I was being reported as such because this debt collector working on behalf of them had advised them too
