What household items do you reuse?

I partly reuse some items due to environmental reasons but a lot of it is to save money as I am tight. :D

Interested to know what items people reuse to see if I am missing anything. I use:

  • Washable sanitary products
  • Washable cloths (microfibre)
  • I recently cut old cotton knickers into scraps to use as 'wipes' (e.g. face wipes and I don't keep the knicker shape so it's not obvious!)
  • Cut old t-shirts up to use as cloths
  • Washable hankies

I see a lot of mine is 'wiping products' focused :D. I don't like buying wipes / kitchen roll / disposable cloths as I think they are wasteful.

Let me know what you reuse!

I keep baking parchment to reuse when blind baking pastry (that’s gloriously specific)

washable cloths - when the drying towels get too knackered to use they become washing cloths

old takeaway cartons for freezing things

wash and reuse ziplock bags - I reckon gold is less expensive than those puppies

and I pull an awesome mumsnet chicken where I reuse the bones to make risotto or soup

plastic pots for freezer storage. Cream and yoghurt (pint tubs, not single-portion Grin) for stock and gravy; dip pots for chopped ageing mushrooms and for two-person portions of cold meat chunks; takeaway dip pots for pizza sauce; ice-cream tubs (stolen from MiL) for sliced meat and for home-made ice cream, and for taking sandwiches on car journeys which is how we ended up with some of them in the first place

bread bags - buy cheap white sliced for cheese on toast, reuse the bags for home-made

freezer bags

PLJ bottles for home-made cordial

I have a pile of nappy liners in the kitchen sink cupboard for use as cleaning cloths (younger child is 20)

my mother used to make pillowcases out of sheets that had been sides-to-middled too many times. I've never had the organisation to do that but H did make a whole load of face-masks out of one that had been kept in case I ever did

I re use laundry tablet tubs for sweets, jigsaw puzzle and little toys to be kept in. Things like shopkins which the girls always lose around the house.

Icecream tubs for leftovers, like rice or whatever.

Plastic bags to reuse for shopping.

Hoover bags, use them twice (sometimes stick back up with sticky tape)
Washing up gloves go from kitchen to bathroom to pet/outside
wrapping paper/envelopes/packaging
