Hi all.

yesterday morning I started getting this burning pain in my vaginal area, and it felt really heavy like I needed the loo. From then on when I went for a wee I started getting excruciating pain as it was coming out.

rang the drs first thing today and they asked me to bring a sample in. Then I got a text from the dr late today saying they found blood in my sample but no infection, so it’s gone off to a different lab.

I looked up blood in urine and there is loads of stuff about cancer. I’m now terrified.

can’t call the drs again til the morning. Help!

Blood in urine can mean loads of things, I had it years ago, can't even remember what caused it now but most causes are nothing to worry about or can be easily treated
Take some deep breaths, stop googling symptoms and try to distract yourself until you hear back from the doctors

Are you on or close to your period? I had a wee sample tested on Friday and it had blood in, had a major panic all afternoon until I noticed I was spotting slightly. Bloods were clear so must have been that. Your symptoms sound like a UTI, I had some UTI symptoms but no infection signs in the wee dip but they gave me antibiotics anyway based on the symptoms.

ItsSuchACryingShame · 20/03/2023 22:28

Hang on, did you take the urine in this morning or yesterday morning?

If today the dip test will have shown blood, but not necessarily any other obvious indicators of infection, so they will have sent it off to the lab to see if anything grows in the culture that needs antibiotics.

With stinging and blood I’m pretty sure it will come back as infection.
Ive seen samples so red with blood you can’t even do a dip test…it still didn’t come back as cancer so try not to worry.

Every time they test my urine there is always blood in it - never amounted to anything.

OK, calm down.

The symptoms of bladder cancer do not come on quickly like you are describing.

What has happened is that the surgery have done a quick urine distinct which hasn't shown any white blood cells and so they can't be certain that you have an infection.
It has now been sent to a lab where they will culture it for organism growth. I'm certain that it will grow a bacteria and you will be treated with antibiotics.

Lots of dipsticks just show blood when there is active infection upon culture.

Please calm down. Peeing red urine where you can visibly see blood is indicative of cancer. Your symptoms aren't.

I too have health anxiety and have been through the bladder cancer worry myself. Needless to say it never happened to me but I too had blood on a dipstick test.

Now breathe and step away from Dr Google.
