If you’re a HCA what is your rota like?

Just that really. My husband is retraining and starting with becoming a HCA, no word on rota yet so I’m just looking for a rough idea of what it will look like. How many weeks rota you get given at a time etc. Thank you Smile

It will vary hugely depending on the role - shifts lengths and shift patterns vary between departments and hospitals. Some areas will have a lot less variation than others. In my hospital you get 4 weeks at a time and you should get the rota about 8 weeks before it starts, but I'm not sure how standard that it.

We have to publish the rotas 6-8 weeks in advance and you get a 4 week rota at a time.

Mixture of days, nights and weekends.

Completely random. We are allowed 5 requests per off duty. But if we are reasonable, most things are honoured. I love the flexibility of shifts and would never want to do Monday to Friday 9-5!

We also get four weeks at a time. Usually about a month to 6 weeks in advance.
