How do you play computer games that have a storyline and side quests?

Are you someone who sticks to the story methodically, completes it then goes back and does the side quests or are you are side quest over storyline type player? Or somewhere else?

I like to do the side missions as they come up where possible. Or if its split into areas I'll finish one area before moving on.

Depends on the game mechanics! Finish an area before moving on, but keep an eye on side-quests and level requirements (don't want to outlevel things).

I'm still scarred by The Witcher 3, in which it's not really possible to do that because there are so many quests. Maybe it's time to play it again...?
