Looking at purchasing our first home. We have seen a fantastic new build 3 bedroom home priced at 200k, it is under the new first home scheme where you buy a home at a discount of market value, you own 100% of the freehold with the only caveat being that if/when you move, you must resell it to another first time buyer.
The area is just on the border of another local authority. We live 10 minutes away from my parents now, and the new development is also 10 minutes away from them (in the other direction). Not particularly far but we do not know the area overly well so it’s a bit daunting. South facing gardens and ideally in a cul de sac. Beautiful views. Not far from local shopping centre. Friends who live nearby speak positively and schools are good with good motorway and transport links.
If we want a home under this scheme we need to act quite fast as they are popular and will sell. I know new builds are like marmite but we would like a blank canvas and to not have to worry about reno or repairs. We’ve looked at the planning for local towns and there has been a vast number of housing developments over the last 10yrs but building in the area is really slowing down and not many scheduled.
I just can’t visualise myself living in that area but then again I’ve always been crap at getting my head around major life changes. Unlikely to be a forever home but a home for the next 5-10 years where DH and I will hopefully be lucky enough to start and grow our family… more importantly it’s not lining a landlord’s pocket every month!
Can you take a leap into the unknown like this with houses and trust other people’s word on the area, or is that a bit stupid? Never bought a house before and it’s a big commitment you want to get right, obviously. We are going to view the site tomorrow.
