Can anyone recommend me a new vacuum cleaner?

My Dyson Big Ball appears to be giving up the ghost as it's got next to no suction power these days. I'm
not really sure what I should get to replace it so am looking for recommendations.

I need it to be bagless, compact and fairly lightweight (thought not necessarily cordless) with good suction power (the Dyson was great at the start) and able to pick up hair.

Any recommendations? I've heard good things about Miele but their bagless model is heavier than my Dyson, which I found a bit too heavy. Shark?

Samsung cordless- much better than the Dyson cordless.

Our shark is brilliant, everyone else I know who has one loves theirs

Get a 'sebo'. John Lewis sell them. I did have a tiny issue after purchase (turned out it needed a new computer upload thing....who knew vacuums used chips?) and the guy who I usually call for domestic appliance issues knew only a very little as they never break down so he never gets to see them.

I'd never heard of a Sebo but I had a look and alas they don't really look compact or lightweight.

I didn't know Samsung did vacuums!

I've recently bought a Samsung Pro 90. Cordless, bagless & loads of accessories. Got on on a discount with collection & 'trade in' of your old one even of not working. Very happy with it so far - sucks up lots of hair!. Does need slightly more frequent emptying but I don't mind that.

I love my Shark

Viviennemary · 18/03/2023 18:43

I like my shark. It's great.

Blossomandbee · 18/03/2023 18:45

Could you get your Dyson serviced? Sometimes that sorts the suction issue.
I've personally not found anything bagless that's better than Dyson for manoeuvrability. I've tried two different Sharks and thought they were both awful.

SilentHedges · 18/03/2023 19:49

Shark cordless bagless awful for me. I was seriously upset by how much money I wasted on it. After reading extensive Mumsnet reviews I bought a Miele C3 cat and dog. Corded and not bagless, but compact. I feel duty bound to spread the word of how magnificently good it is.

WarningToTheCurious · 18/03/2023 19:52

I’d still look at the Miele models with bags.

We ditched our (with hindsight) crappy Dyson for a bagged Miele and it was a revelation.

Artemisty · 18/03/2023 19:57

Can I ask why you need it to be bagless?
I've got a bagged Miele and a shark and the Miele wins hands down. Bagless models are always so messy to empty!

Agree with every word of this. I have had a Miele for 6 months. It's fantastic. The suction is so strong I have to be careful not to wave it anywhere near the cat. He'd be gone in a swoosh.

I'm so fed up with my dyson too. Paid a fortune and fed up with having to call custoner service for this that and the ither i have a miele thats nearly 20 years old. It is outstanding. We live with sooo kany stairs though so need a cordless. Off to google the samsung

divorceadviceneeded · 18/03/2023 20:07

Miele bagless. I bought this about 3 weeks ago and I love it.

I prefer the convenience of not having buy vacuum bags! But I see that Miele do a few bagless ones too.

That's the one I was just looking at. Is it fairly lightweight? The Dyson I have is nearly 8kg but I didn't think to check the weight before I bought it 🤦🏻‍♀️

We've just moved from Dyson to Miele after 15 years and so far I love it. We have one thrust uses bags, but it's more important for me that it actually cleans.

embarrassed23 · 18/03/2023 20:23

I've got a regular shark and a cordless shark. Both great though I prefer the cordless one aces it's so light, the regular one is good but so clunky and heavy.

Lndnmummy · 18/03/2023 20:28

How does the miele one do on stairs?

Helpmethanks · 18/03/2023 20:31

Another vote for Miele

Branster · 18/03/2023 20:38

Miele all the way when I will be replacing the Dyson.
Brilliant vacuum cleaners.
Currently with. Dyson which was an impulse purchase a few years ago. Yes they do loose suction but you can get them serviced for a deep clean and it does make a difference.

DailyCake · 18/03/2023 20:54

I have had the same Miele (cat and dog) for over 15 years and it still works perfectly, but like an idiot I fell for the cordless hype and bought a Shark (pet version) in the Christmas sales because it had such good reviews.

I hate it. It isn't as powerful as my old Miele, it's top heavy and very tiring to use.

I think the people who gave it good reviews have never owned a Miele.

Funkyslippers · 18/03/2023 20:57

Shark Liftaway. I don't find it clunky or heavy as you can lift it off to vaccuum the stairs. My new one is an anti air wrap and it's stupidly powerful. I don't think cordless are as powerful

nessnessness · 18/03/2023 21:17

Another Shark Lift-away fan here. My Dyson lasted about 10 years but with 2 large hairy dogs, couldn't do the job anymore. My new Shark is very powerful and easy to manoeuvre up the stairs. Bought mine from Amazon on Prime deal for around £230. So look out for the offers!

Miele, with the anti allergen things.
