My mum has been researching our family tree and has a great grandmother who was Danish. She has found her birth certificate and it states her place of birth as ‘Dinelardd’ but try as we may we cannot work out where the hell this is?! Is it just an archaic spelling of Denmark? Can anyone help so we can carry on searching further?

Its such a niche and random query I am expecting very little answers 😭

I wonder if it's Dianalund

Can you post a photo of the place name?

Did you look at the image itself of her birth certificate? I only ask because I was researching a Danish branch of some in laws and the AI misread a stillbirth as child christened called “E Pigbarn” when I was looking up birth records.

When actually when I looked at the image of the book what was written in 18th century script (letters were different, s looked like an f, etc) was “en dødfødt signbarn” which means “a stillborn sign of child”. There was no sex, so this was a late miscarriage of a fetus where you can’t tell the sex yet.

So have a closer look at the actual writing.

Ooh this is so interesting and honestly I thought I would get no replies so thank you.

I will see if my mum can send me an image of the certificate. I won’t see her until Sunday though. Thanks so much for your suggestions so far
