Boring passport question

So DSs child passport has expired, I need to renew his passport but he turns 16 in a few weeks. It seems you can get an adult passport 4 weeks before you turn 16 so thats what I want to do as it lasts longer than a child's passport.

The problem is there doesn't seem to be renew a child passport as an adult passport option. I can renew a child passport, renew an adult passport or apply for a first passport. None of these seem to be what I want. This is surely possible but I cant work out how to do it online. Help please.

Just tick for an adult renewal.
And yes its worth waiting a few weeks to get a 10 year passport instead of only 5 years

I wouldn’t wait a few weeks if you need it this summer. The passport office is going on strike early April for 5 weeks, the impact of which will take months to clear.

@dementedpixie thank you I think Inwas maybe overthinking it.

@TheFlis12345 yes thats a good point. I will be able to do it on Monday so hopefully that will be OK. We have nothing booked but I would like him to have a valid passport incase of any post exam boys trips he may want to go on.
