Help keep me calm whilst I wait for urgent blood test results?

Went to the GP this morning because I started the combined pill a week ago and from Wednesday have had puffy legs (not visibly but they feel puffy when bent a bit like during pregnancy) and hands and numbness/cold sensations in my lower legs. This has now got a lot better but on Thursday I started weeing very frequently but no dark urine or anything else associated with UTI. GP did a dip test and told me I have protein and blood in my urine but no marker for infection so sent me off for an urgent blood test.
I'm so worried. I was born with one kidney so I'll be in trouble if something is causing it to fail. I don't know if the pill has triggered this or if it's just coincidence. I had a FBC blood test in September and all was fine. Has anyone had similar and what was the outcome? Hoping to god it's just a UTI but it seems unlikely.

I can offer a handhold and a prayer but I don't have any knowledge to share. I hope for a good outcome for you.

Thank you..I have quite bad health anxiety and finding it hard not to Google!

I also offer a handhold and a prayer. I've had urgent blood tests last year for temporal arteritis and I was so very worried. All I can say is that I got the results on same day and, thankfully, they were negative. At the end of the day if they'd been positive I'd have to have taken comfort in the fact that at least something would be done to help me. Be strong and good luck x

Hi there @Pillgonewrong

Let us know when you get results. I have a lot of experience with renal medicine, having gone through the whole process myself.

I hope all is well. x

Pillgonewrong · 17/03/2023 15:34

Thank you both.

Hope you're OK, OP. I've had big infection markers come back just now so they've stuck me on IV antibiotics.

Pillgonewrong · 17/03/2023 16:02

Thanks @Cherrysoup hope you're ok and feeling better soon.
My back is increasingly achy and finding passing wee harder, not sure whether to ring docs or wait until they call with the results hopefully later this afternoon.

Difficulty passing wee is one of the 111 questions. Please ring them or your gp back urgently.

I would call the doctor now. They'll be well into surgery sessions soon I hope it's nothing 🙏

hopeishere · 17/03/2023 16:18

Would the results be back that fast? Unless the surgery is attached to a hospital?

Pillgonewrong · 17/03/2023 16:21

It isn't attached to a hospital no. I asked at the hospital and they said results would probably be back late afternoon. Just rang the GP and apparently they'll pass the message on that my symptoms are worse. I can't go to A&E yet because I'm at home on my own with my 2 year old.

Well the bloods are all normal! They said I could drop another urine sample down and see if it was an anomaly but what is causing my symptoms and the blood/protein in my wee if not a UTI or anything more sinister.

I came back from an overseas trip ( developing country) with some weird symptoms. GP checked everything, nothing drastically wrong until they did a urine test. Then she was on the phone to a major hospital ( ie not the nearest), I was to go straight away to have this test and that test. Lots of questions about my kidneys — yes I did have a problem in the past and I was told it might show up as damage in about 20 years. How long ago was that ? 20 years…
Xrays, scans, urine tests, blood tests, lots of ooh this looks unusual. And then nothing. All was normal again, I felt ok, kidneys still working ok now. No one knew what caused it, it’s never recurred.
Hope you have a similar outcome.

Pillgonewrong · 17/03/2023 17:15

@Justmeandthedog1 how strange, I've had similar with different organs, I have a lot of abnormalities from birth so I'm always a bit of a mystery to HCP.
One thing I don't like about the NHS though is that you have all these tests and they don't show anything then there's no follow up when you still have symptoms. Like now, the GP line seems to be blood test fine, urine sample doesn't show UTI so off you go. But..I still have the symptoms.
