Royal Mail redirection moved house help?

Jessie1995 · 17/03/2023 07:54

Hi does anybody know I have paid for Royal Mail redirection for 6 months have not long moved house. Would things such as speeding/parking tickets etc all get redirected to me ok?
I don’t think I’ve done anything wrong 🙈 haha but I had a little worry as an anxious person after reading some things don’t get redirected ( I assume though this is things that may incur fraud not fines etc)
I have changed my v5c now but just wanted to know if anybody knew the answer to this so I can stop worrying haha!

thank you!

I've always received everything but I guess if you use different names that you haven't included on the redirection then things might not arrive.

Hellocatshome · 17/03/2023 07:57

In my experience it depends how accurately the name on the letter and the name you gave for redirection matches. For example if you asked for Mrs Jane Bloggs to be redirected buy a letter was addressed to Mrs J S Bloggs it might not get redirected. I dont know if this is how it is supposed to work but was definitely our experience.

Prettypaisleyslippers · 17/03/2023 07:58

Everything in your name will get redirected except for a letter confirming that mail direction is in place.

Changingplace · 17/03/2023 08:00

Everything got redirected for us, but you can update the DVLA arc quite quickly anyway so prioritise getting stuff changed over at the same time.

WeCome1 · 17/03/2023 08:02

Everything should get redirected. The Royal Mail staff don’t discriminate by sender.

Thanks yes have done insurance and v5c etc just need to do driving licence today! But I was just worried things like fines/tickets wouldn’t get redirected but it’s good to know that they will! So thank you

Thank you just on their website it says letters that say ‘do not redirect on’ won’t get redirected. I just wasn’t sure what these included and whether driving related fines/tickets etc would get redirected!

I have realised that I used a shortened version of my name on one bit of post I have. But on the redirection I would have put my full name ( not shortened ) I’m now worried i won’t get that post? Or would that be ok as still ‘miss’ and same surname just the first name slightly different?
tjank you!

Hi I’ve realised on some of my post I’ve put a shortened version of my first name. And on others my full ( not shortened version) on the redirection I put my full ( not shortened) version. Do you think this would matter? It’s still the same name and surname and still ‘miss’ thank you

It used to be the case that you couldn't get mail for people with the same surname from the same address redirected to different places so I assume they just go by surname.

Tockomtele · 17/03/2023 18:56

@Jessie1995 It should arrive imo. I'm sure I've received letter for just initial and full surname.

What I wonder is whether you could redirect a redirected mail. We might be moving out for 4-5 months and then to a different address. And I would prefer not to keep changing my address on all docs.

Every single piece of our post was redirected for 6 months (it was flat with a shared entrance and our old downstairs neighbour was checking for us).

I’m now worrying about the name! I’ve realised some of my post was under a shortened version of my first name. ( same initial ) but on the redirection form I’ve put my first middle last name ( not the shortened first name ) do you think this matters?

it shouldn’t, even post in my maiden name was forwarded.

Ah and on the form you didn’t put your maiden name down?
I would hope that if the surname and first initial is the same and the name is a clear shortened version it would be ok!

I had a bank statement once that for some reason wasn't redirected and was sent back to the bank. I thought I'd changed my address quickly enough so it wouldn't have even needed to be redirected but it somehow slipped through the net - maybe their systems were slow to update. They then needed zillions of forms of ID from me for me to be able to carry out any transactions on the account. It was so annoying that after jumping through their hoops I closed the account and went elsewhere.

Oh what a nightmare! This is what worries me if something just doesn’t get redirected!
my other worry is the name though! Some of my mail is a shortened version of my first name and I’m now worried that won’t get to me? ( same surname and it’s a very obvious shortened version of my first name)

Thanks so if I’ve just shortened my first name slightly on some post this should be ok?
the rest is the same, ‘miss… middle name surname’ it’s literally just the first name ( a very obvious shortening too)

We moved house 3 months ago, everything has been redirected fine. My husband has a long and short name (like Christopher/Chris), I only put the long name on the form but anything with the short name has also been sent on.

I also left labels with our new address on plus 2 books of stamps behind so that our buyers could forward anything that slipped through the net.

Thank you for this. Yes it’s a very obvious shortned first name for me for example most of my post is ‘miss Victoria smith’ but some of it is ‘miss Vicky smith’ but on the form I only put miss Victoria smith? So I’m hoping I would still get the ones that say Vicky on? Sounds like I should then as it’s not completley different!
