Parents want to cancel toddler show after one of the actors announces they are non-binary

What do you think of this?

www.google.com/amp/s/nypost.com/2023/03/02/ms-rachel-announces-tiktok-break-after-pronoun-backlash/amp/

If you have a young child, you might have come across Ms.Rachel on YouTube, a teacher who creates educational videos for toddlers and babies.

She has recently announced that she will be taking a break from social media after experiencing cyber-bullying over one of the actors in her show, "Jules" announced they wanted to be addressed as "they/them" on their instagram.

What do you think?

I personally don't see a problem in that, as long as they don't bring that into the videos and turn the channel into a drag queen show, they can use whatever pronouns they want in private.

It's ridiculous. The amount of harassment that non-binary people are getting is unreal. High time to make it a protected characteristic.

Feels exactly like it was for gay people back when I was a child. I thought we had moved on, but apparently not.

Of course it should not be a protected characteristic - a person is either male (with a penis) or female (with a vagina). There is no confusion, you have one or the other. The world has gone crazy

You really haven't thought this through very well at all. Go and do a tiny tiny bit of research, maybe in to the damage all this is causing, and have a little re think.

You're either male or female. It's ridiculous to think otherwise.

If they are going on stage with a power point presentation to contemplate their navel over it sure issue

If not why on earth does it matter? Are they hiding under the bed to jump out and recruit people sure I don't get all this need to identify with some new label someone has come up with but seriously there is more important things to worry about

Please explain how being 'non binary' is any way like being homosexual? Thanks

Blort · 16/03/2023 21:17

There's no way this should be a protected characteristic.

It wouldnt stop Jules' online abuse. People are still horrifically racist online, happy to make violent rape threats to women etc.

People being abused for any reason can be legally actioned if it's severe enough. There's no need to make it a protected characteristic.

parietal · 16/03/2023 21:17

do they mean non-binary in terms of gender or in terms of sex?

almost everyone is gender non-binary because they don't fit the barbie/GI-joe stereotype. so declaring a nonbinary gender doesn't mean much.

no-one is nonbinary in terms of sex because their body & chromosomes must be male or female.

so either way, this is a non-event and best ignored.

arethereanyleftatall · 16/03/2023 21:22

@WandaWonder
It matters. It matters because if you accept people can choose whether they're a man or a woman - then, this allows men in to women's spaces, their prisons, their changing rooms, their sports. And, with men committing 94% of crimes, and98% if sexual crimes (with TW committing crimes at an even higher rate than men) , this really isn't very good at all for women. And, then, there's children. Teeenage girls don't tend to like their own bodies. If people they trust In authority tell them don't worry, change it, then they might just well do that. And regret it very much 10 years later when they've cut their tits off and can't have babies.

I totally agree with you, but you will get absolutely piled on here. Mumsnet is packed to the rafters with pearl clutching bigots who worry the non binary are coming after their little 'uns.

I think it's interesting that exactly the same vocabulary was used to describe gay people a couple of decades ago 'it's just not natural. You're born biologically meant to mate with the opposite sex, pretending otherwise is against nature' etc etc. I wish people would grow up and move on.

arethereanyleftatall · 16/03/2023 21:33

@muddlingthrou
With the very very large difference that being gay doesn't affect any one else at all, doesn't impact on anyone else's rights, but transwomen impact very negatively on women's rights. That's the difference.

Ms Rachel won't be "cancelled", she has the most adoring fan-base imaginable.

And gay people weren't claiming to be anything they weren't. They weren't saying they were another sex/age/race and trying to use their protected spaces. They were asking effectively to be allowed to get on with being themselves in privacy. They effectively wanted to be ignored, the way straight people aren't seen as a problem, they're nothing to get worked up about.
Gay adult men weren't tying to play violent contact sport with young girls.
Gay adults weren't convicted of rape and then asking to be locked away from society with only vulnerable women for company.
Gay adult men weren't covering themselves in bright sparkly tight clothes or leather dog collars and things and getting young children to watch them - or even stroke them (ugh).

It's NOTHING like gay rights.
Get real - you are utterly brainwashed- groomed. How can you be so blind!!

Clymene · 16/03/2023 22:49

Sexuality has fuck all to do with identity.

And anyone involved in teaching preschool children shouldn't be talking about either

You are, of course, totally correct.

That will not, however, prevent you from getting a roasting on here.
