Just wondering as from social media it seems like most kids are living their best lives and taking advantage of the cheaper/quieter days out at soft play, theme parks, the zoo etc. My 2 in primary are in school as their teachers aren't striking. Dc1 is home from college doing his coursework and my 2 in secondary school are at home doing online learning 2021 style.

Secondary school was open to 3 year groups, vulnerable dc and dc of key workers during the first strike. Then last time it was 2 year groups and this week it's just year 11's plus vulnerable/key worker children in school. So I'm getting the impression that lots of parents gave it a try and are not managing. My year 10 is doing ok and getting on with things but my year 7 needs a fair bit of supervision to make sure he's doing his work and not playing roblox or watching someone build a maze for their cat on YouTube. It's just about doable but I think we would both rather be at the zoo!

DC1 is in year 7. She got up very late, did a bit of school work, watched some anime and episodes of dr who and is trying to find a friend who wants to go to the park in the rain with her.
DC2 is in primary school and has had to go to school every strike day. She is very annoyed.

Only our youngest in year 9 is off for strikes. She’s still asleep so taking full advantage of the time off. 😅

Does your year 7 child have work set? I’d just let them play roblox. 🤷🏻‍♀️

DS age 10 did school work yesterday morning then went to his friends house as his Mum is a nurse so happened to have the day off. Today he has been at home doing home work on and off with watching TV. He spent 30 minutes in the home gym with me to get some exercise and he is coming food shopping with me soon. He is very fed up with it and would rather be at school with his mates.

My older two are in reception and its open today and their little sister is sat in a cardboard box, still wearing her raincoat but no trousers, eating raisins, having just got back from B&Q where we bought a door handle and a paint roller. It's very rock and roll over here

Y13 DD is doing her History coursework, Y8 DD had quite a lot of online work set yesterday so has finished that off this morning and then it's one of her friends birthdays so they've all gone ice skating this afternoon.

Covgal83 · 16/03/2023 15:29

We walked into town this morning to spend younger one's birthday money. Treated them to a cake. Got home asked them to do something constructive for a bit (both read for half an hour) now rotting brains on Fortnite/Roblox. One has a friend over. I'll make them run a few errands with me in a bit so they've had a bit more fresh air. It's my day off so it's quite nice to hang out a bit and I need to get house admin done.

@MiamiMyAmy unfortunately both my secondary school aged dc have been given a full day of work set including meetings on teams. Although my year 7 got an hour off this morning because he normally has pe 2nd lesson on a Thursday. They got 30 min for lunch and then back on teams again. They are looking forward to be going back to school tomorrow.

Yesterday DD(7) was in school. DS (11) was off. He went to the shops with his dad then when dad was working went out with his friends where as far as I know they got costas and played a big game of hide & seek around the housing estate where some of his friends live. Then went into school for band practice which wasn’t cancelled. Today both are off. They went out for breakfast with their dad and once he was working (from home) they did some school work, went on the trampoline, watched tv and chilled out. Just off to swimming in a minute. I’ve been at work both days.
