Transferring WhatsApp iPhone to Android

Got a new Android phone (Motorola). When I was setting it up, followed the instructions on the WhatsApp website about how to transfer WhatsApp messages, but one of the steps just didn't work (it said a QR code would appear but it didn't). Continued setting up the new phone and now I just can't transfer my WhatsApp messages history.

I've googled and looked at loads of websites, which all say it's really hard because iCloud and Google Drive (to which you might back up WhatsApp) don't speak to each other. But there are various websites which promise a thingie you can download a programme that does the transfer - but they all seem to charge quite a lot for the programme.

Has anyone actually managed to do this successfully, and if so, what exactly did you use and did it cost anything?

I know I can just set up WhatsApp on the new phone from scratch (same phone number) but I want all my old messages /photos & videos in WhatApp too!

Anyone? I’ve now tried factory resetting my new phone several times and going through all the steps on the WhatsApp instructions here several times and it STILL won’t work.

I’ve also messaged the WhatsApp support number and got an almost immediate reply saying “unfortunately this is outside the scope of the support that WhatsApp can provide” (I think a bot must have looked at my message as the response was almost instant).

Csn anyone help?

I did it the other way round and it was a total nightmare.

Essentially I had to ensure everything was backed up to Google drive on the android.

Then I had to reset the factory setting on the new iPhone. Then start the transfer using an app move to iOS

When it came to what do you want to transfer I realised I had to do WhatsApp first, which took ages, then contacts etc. then log into Google account on new phone and sync that, THEN open WhatsApp and set up with existing number. ..

Took me a few attempts of different ways.

Thanks for your reply - that sounds awful - it’s so frustrating that the WhatsApp website makes it sounds pretty straightforward but clearly it’s not…

I’m going to reset to factory settings AGAIN, then try not setting up my Google account and see if that works.
