Hi just wondering if anyone can help. I am currently in a 2 bed housing association house with my 1 son who get DLA high rate care. He is 6. My other son stays with me 3 nights a week and he is 14 but his dad gets his child benefit.

I originally applied for my son and me and was offered a 2 bed. I have been in my house 2 years and I have reapplied with my 14 year old son added on.

I don't think there is any hope of been offered a 3 bed. What are people's experience with this?

They only award an extra bedroom for a child who lives with you full time.

He lives with dad dad gets child benefit so you won't qualify for a 3bedroom unless he is moving in with you.

He doesn't live with you so you can't apply for a house on the basis that he does.

Aslong as you can provide a letter from him.to say that he does love there most of the time they will.accept this. They have literally just told me this on phone as we have step daughter 90% of the time. They said provide a letter from mum and will be OK. It's to make sure they are not providing 2 houses with that child in apparently

DH's ex wife applied for social housing and asked DH to write a letter to the local authority/housing people stating that we share custody of DSD(20) so that she could get a 3 bed house

It worked, ex wife has a 3 bed now

Is that something you could do?
