Blood test results protocol

I had some blood tests yesterday as I've been feeling generally unwell. I received a text message from the GP today asking me to make an appointment so we could discuss these in more detail.

Does that mean they found something?

If I understand correctly they wouldn't have asked to see me if they're had all been clear.

Or do you think they want to see me to say that they didn't find anything?

I know no one can say what's wrong and I don't expect anybody to be able to tell me that but just the usual protocols. Thanks

Sounds like they've spotted something, but it can be something that isn't really anything to worry about. When dd had that she was low on vitamin D.

Ours would phone to make an appointment if it was something that was urgent.

Yes I do think it is vitamin d or iron maybe. I have an appt Monday.

Thanks good to know they would ring if it was more urgent.

OP I had this too, the appointment was to discuss low Vitamin D and the Dr issued a prescription for high strength Fit D tablets for 3 months then I had to re-test to see if they made a difference.
It does make you panic tho when hear they want to discuss results without a clue as to what it might be.

my surgery loads the info onto my records which I can then view via the nhs app. Maybe worth a look? They are good because they provide links to explain what each test means.

My experience has been

Letter - low vitamin D
Phone call - really high B12 (multi vitamin!)
Phone call 12hrs after bloods to tell me to go to hospital immediately - low white cell count

You know if it's urgent. I was rung at 8pm to tell me which hospital and department to go to
My dad (years ago) had an ambulance and the GP arrive at his door because they thought he was likely to be unconscious based on his bloods

I'm interested also op, I've had some and told they found something but can take 3 weeks to tell me what they found because it's not urgent?

QueenMabs · 16/03/2023 19:56

If anyone's interested I'll report back Monday!

@Rebel2 how scary. No real idea what a low white blood count means- odd to google!I hope you are well now.

@Tinkerbyebye thanks good idea and I tried but it isn't there sadly.

Last time I had low vit d I was sent a text and told to collect a prescritption. Oh well time will tell!
