Why do I need 99.9% of germs killed. Isnt bacteria everywhere and not all of it going to kill me?

Ive just seen dettol flogging some liquid that you put in a washing machine when you wash your clothes. Clue is in 'wash your clothes'. What sort of germs do I need to get off my clothes that are there but then are washed off in the wash?

Im not eco mad or anything but I try not to have excessive things going down the sink for no reason

The detergent disinfectants are really to combat the fact that when you wash at 30 degrees clothes like underwear, or with poo or vomit on, come out more bacteria ridden than when they went in.
Nobody forces you to use them.

I guess I want that kind of bomb-germs-from-a-great-height specificity if I'm dealing with sick or poo. Otherwise I'm happy with 40 degrees and using anti bac products on high traffic areas (switches, handles, remotes, kitchen and bathroom)
