"Blessed day!" TV series

Does anyone know which TV series this quote is from? (Not much to go on I know!)

I remember my siblings and I telling each other that for a while after watching it but can't place it anymore.

I remember the characters being at a formal occasion (probably a funeral) and doing something inappropriate, and as old ladies walk past they both look over and say "blessed day" (sort of pronounced "bleh-sid day") in a very compassionate formal way.

Any ideas?

Handmaids Tale

Handmaids tale?

Shows that me and my siblings used to watch and quote at each other include Friends, Modern Family, New girl. I don't think it's either of them though.

How strange both of you replied the same thing! I've never watched handmaid's tale unfortunately. Also isn't that a sad show? Mine is definitely a comedy and that quote was funny. I think it might be more of a 90s/00s show.

Could it be Fleabag? There are a few scenes where she is having to behave formally in a church and at church occasions in that?

Derry Girls?

TheSpottedZebra · 15/03/2023 00:07

Was it older women in overly posh voices?

I sort of associate it with Keeping Up Appearances, but google isn't giving me anything...

And yes, obviously Handmaid's Tale much much later.

TheSpottedZebra · 15/03/2023 00:08

From your ages (ie when were you saying this) when would you have seen this?

Lastnamedidntstick · 15/03/2023 00:22

Children of the stones?

not seen the tv series but read the book and am sure there was a similar cult type greeting.

I had the TV on other day where. Blessed day was said and my dd automatically said blessed be the fruit.... But it wasnt handmaids tale.... Thats gonna annoy me now!!

WhatsMyFate · 15/03/2023 06:20

Oooh it could actually be fleabag! Let me investigate!
I don't know any of the other programs mentioned.
Initially I was pretty sure it must be Friends, and it was Rachel and Joey who said it but googling it doesn't bring up anything so I must just be getting confused.

Is it Kimmy Schmidt?

Thora Hird was in a comedy series about a funeral parlor. It was called In Loving Memory. Although I think this was more like the 80s, earlier than you remember. Could it have been repeats of this?
