I’ve arranged dinner/drinks this Friday for 6 friends. One person has dropped out and so now one of them has asked if they can bring their partner, who I’ve never met.

I just wanted a nice evening after a shit few weeks and I don’t know how to say no.

sorry, but I’d prefer a girls night so we can have a proper catch up.

I’d love to meet (new partner) another time though - let’s fix something up

Hi @OnAgainOffAgain you could say 'awww one of the others was also planning on bringing her partner but said no we should have a proper girls night out' and just wait for the reply!
Sorry i'm great at this either i hate hurting anyones feelings!
Hope the above helps 😁

“Sorry was planning for a girls night but we should make plans to have a partner catch up one night”
The person surely won’t be annoyed as no one else is taking their partners.
