Is it normal for this to happen with an infection?

I've got strep throat. My tonsils are covered in pus, my temperature is 39 and I can't get into a doctor. I'm waiting for 111 to ring back.

My joints are so incredibly painful and I'm struggling to walk, I'm really wobbly on my legs and have nearly fallen over several times. Is this normal?

Are you able to eat and drink?
Any earache?
You have my sympathies, I've had a really painful throat for about a week but you sound as if you've got it particularly bad.
Have you taken any pain relief? Make sure you're drinking even if it's uncomfortable.

Yes, especially with a high temperature, I've been the same with flu . I'm glad you have an appt.

Drink yes eat no.
Thank you I feel completely miserable and alone at the moment. 111 booked me in to see a clinic 3 towns over (over an hour) I can't drive so declined. I'm now on the phone to 111 to get to the OOH centre which is a short distance from here and I can get a taxi to.

My temperature has been over 40 since my original post even with medicine. I very clearly need antibiotics looking at my throat.

I'm just recovering from strep throat and it was pretty awful.I was in bed for almost 4 days and struggled to take a shower on the 3rd day.My gp prescribed penicillin after a telephone consultation and I spoke to the GP from under my bed clothes with a 40c temperature.
The penicillin worked fairly quickly and I'm on a ten day dose.my throat was hideous for about 34 days but is improving quickly.
Lots of warm drinks really helped and I listened to lots of audiobooks. Look after yourself, it's very nasty.

Hideous throat for 3/4 days, thankfully not 34.

I think it's within the realm of normal for someone very unwell with an infection or high fever, but you need to start antibiotics asap I'd have thought.

Is there someone who could come and help you at home? A temp of 40 is very high and needs bringing down - paracetamol, lukewarm baths (not if you feel unsteady on your feet though and nothing deep), ice lolly, a compress, all the usual suspects, stay as hydrated as possible and try to get your hands on some electrolyte drinks or sachets (dioralyte etc) if possible at some point.

Hope you can get some help at OOH, OP, it's awful. I still vividly remember having similar about 5 years ago. In the end I did have to go to A&E because my throat was so closed up I was having to spit out my own saliva as I couldn't swallow. It was such a horrendous feeling and very worrying. Fortunately I was with a family member when it got to that point or I'd not have been able to call on the phone for help as I couldn't speak. I had IV antibiotics and was given a few days of steroids to take home which sorted it out pretty much immediately. Sending best wishes 💐

I have now got antibiotics but my fever is not breaking I'm hoping after a couple of days on these I'll start to see an improvement
