Anyone with knowledge of Chester?

I am planning a short break with my mother, which will take me within a couple of miles of Chester. Was considering it for a day trip on one of the days. Haven't been there in decades but seem to remember it being very nice.

However, while DM (78) has absolutely all her faculties and doesn't suffer fools gladly, she has all but lost her eyesight and finds crowded places a bit overwhelming. This rules out city centre shopping trips and the like.

Is there anything lovely you would do in Chester if you were visiting with an older person?

Thank you in advance!

Lunch at the Grosvenor Pulford would be nice

Perhaps a Dee Cruise if nice weather. You get the boat on the edge of the city so no need to battle the crowds

If she has a blue badge for parking then the Grosvenor in town is lovely for afternoon tea. Parking is dire otherwise.
Ness botanic garden on Wirral is a short drive. Nowhere similar in Chester with easy /even access
