Buying used car with towbar?

We are looking around for our next car and there are one or two that we are looking at that have towbars and I wondered what the general consensus was on whether they're a good thing.

Cars are five year old people carriers - Renault Scenic, VW Touran type thing.

I wouldnt have thought they would have towed much more than a caravan once or twice a year but DH seems to think they may have been used more and to avoid - damage to engine, brakes, suspension etc

Anyone have any insight?

Can you ask the sellers what they towed and how often?

I think it’s most likely as you said, towing a caravan or trailer tent a few times a year, which on a 5 yrs old car, would make no difference to the engine etc.

I had a tow bar fitted to my people carrier aftermarket but have never towed with it. I had it fitted for 2 reasons, I have a bike rack that attaches to the tow bar and has lights function and I also have a shelf type thing that gives us extra carrying space when we go on holiday.
