How to increase DC2's self confidence?

I have 2 DC. DC1 if 5, DC 2 is 3.5. DC1 is super confident and will just get stuck in. DC2 was born a few months before covid and didn't get the same classes and chances for socialisation that DC1 did and is much, much shyer around new people. However I've noticed DC2 seems to have a real talent for sport with great hand to eye co-ordination and strength, and can achieve things DC1 cant.

But when I take DC2 to lessons (particularly like football where I'm there too) he gets very clingy and doesn't really get stuck in. both DC also attend gymanstics where DC 2 is coming on but there he has DC1 to look out for him.

How can I boost DC2's self confidence? The dream would be build him up to doing a football class on his own as he does seem naturally talented at it, but my fear is his shyness will hold him back in life as he just won't grasp opportunities in the way his brother does.

What can I do to boost his self esteem and help him grow his confidence ,particularly to get to the point to attend classes on his own?

I don't have the answer, OP, but I'm following because this sounds exactly like my 3.5yo d.s. and I'd love some tips. He can be so confident at some things but mostly very shy in social situations and class settings.
