Father poorly. Partner and kids acting like douchbags

My fathers poorly today. Has been sent to A and E. I’m at home waiting to hear how he is. Apparently A and E is a 9 hours wait so sat twiddling thumbs worrying about him.

However - my partner and 2 kids seem to be all acting like complete knobs. Partner is snapping at me and kids are stroppy. Im massively disappointed that when I’m worrying about my dad, instead of trying to be kind and gentle…they’re all causing more stress and aggro.

Anyone else noticed this with their family. Is it because they’re incapable of being the ones to provide support. Incapable of managing a chilled house if I’m 100%. Obviously kids are kids, but my partners behaviour has really fucked me off!!

Sorry to hear that your dad is ill. It's really scary and worrying for you.

How old are your children?

Can you go out for a walk? It sounds like it could do you good right now.

They’re only 8 and 9 so I shouldn’t expect too much of them. Probably just reflecting the tension of the house in their behaviour.

A walk is a good idea. Thanks

Shut yourself away from them if they're stressing you out.

DH was most of the time really helpful when my Dad was terminally ill but there were times that I had to just walk away from a conversation instead of screaming like a banshee at him.
