Facebook message - old friend ( we'll sort of )

Not sure where this belongs but ....

About 20 years ago I had a friend ( who I'm not longer in contact with )

She was seeing a guy ( long distance ) for a very short while but she dumped him in the end and fleeced him out of a grand or two.

He was a nice guy, too nice for my friend and we got along the few times that I met him.

Fast forward 20 years, he added me on Facebook. We exchanged messages and caught up whats been going on, we both have kids and other halves now.

It's all very pleasant and never inappropriate but the messages keep coming daily and I don't want to be mean but I really don't have that much to say anymore.

If I change my profile picture or someone tags me in something he's there straight away. Sometimes I'll leave the messages unopened but then he'll message again.

I did go off the radar for a while and he deleted me but then he requested me again and I felt bad so I added him back.

He's a really nice guy and I don't mind messaging once in a while but not all the time.

How can I get this across with being or sounding horrible?

Advice & suggestions welcome.

Thank you.

Just tell him “sorry, I’ve enjoyed getting back in touch but I can’t message as often as you want.” And then mute him. You can check his messages once a week or so if you want.

Just don't accept his friend request again? No big drama, but ask yourself why you are so keen to keep letting this random person into your life, seems a bit strange to me.

Just unfriend him! He's not a close friend it's no big thing.

Unfriend him!

Personally I would unfriend him, you two are not that close and he seems to delete you when you’re not actively messaging anyway.
Failing that, next time he sends lots of messages, just politely reply saying you’re going offline so won’t be messaging much.
