Scarlet fever- out of hours or wait til tomorrow?

Dc appears to have scarlet fever. Dc1 had it in the mudstone of strep A being in the news and this is exactly the same. He's OK, calpol managing the temp, not feeling too unwell. Covered in rash and itchy, sore throat. Face very flushed. But really, not that ill with it.

I called OOH for dc1 and had a call back 18 hours later so thinking I might as well wait til tomorrow for GP. Or should I try and get him seen today, and started on antibiotics?

I would call 111. I think they recommend starting antibiotics ASAP for scarlet fever.

Try and see them... the sooner they get antibiotics the better. They are infectious at the moment.

I’d try OOH. The 18h could’ve been because it was in the news then and everyone was calling, it definitely doesn’t sound typical. Worst case scenario you end up not being seen till tomorrow, best case it’s sorted this morning.

When I called before I was put down for a 2 hour callback. This time, 24 hours so not holding my breath.

My ds just got over this. I called out of hours doctors, it was 10 hour wait but I just waited. What if you can't get through to gp in the morning? The doctor told me a delay in antibiotics can cause all sorts of long term problems with heart and kidneys. I wouldn't wait

@Breadhead1 I've just called, ended up going through the online service, been put through for a 24 hour call back. GP is usually pretty good tbh.

I'm sure he'll be fine, I thought ds was over the worst of it before I got the antibiotics to be honest. Gp just said to keep calpol and nurofen going for a few days even if you think they are getting better incase throat gets so sore they don't want to drink or eat.

He doesn't seem as ill as dc1 was. He's surviving on porridge, Greek yogurt and cold water.
