Help! Marbling ink stain on white desk

SpikeWithoutASoul · 11/03/2023 22:13

DD has managed to spill ink on her new white desk. She rubbed at it with tissues and now has lilac smudges all over it. Google told me to use white spirit to remove it but it hasn’t made any difference. Any other ideas, please?

Bleach? Lemon Juice? Something Oxy-action ...ish? No idea but perhaps trying a small spot to see what happens.

Hairspray? I used it to get permanent marker off a table the other day.

Alcohol, isopropyl should remove it.

WD40?

Alcohol, isopropyl should remove it.

I second this advice. You want medicinal alcohol - either rubbing alcohol or surgical spirit.
I'd go with surgical spirit.
Do not use on lacquered finishes though. (Or an ipad screen - don't ask how I know)

It's the proper alcohol you need. White spirit dissolves oily stains. Ink needs alcohol. The hairspray advice might help, even perfume or hand gel? But theses wouldn't be as concentrated.

If it's not lacquered nail polish remover

I've had success with the pink stuff in a tub rubbed on with a micro fibre cloth. Test it on an inconspicuous bit first though as it's abrasive

Bar keepers friend

I have found hand sanitiser cleans a lot of ink stains.

Hand gel gets ink off

Another vote for Bar Keepers Friend - the powder, not the spray. Bloody magic in a bottle that stuff.

Deodorant should do it. That's how I got permanent marker off my laminate floor when DD was a young terror and writing off school desks when I was.

Nice ink pen , draw some outlines and make it a bespoke desk with original art

Thank you so much for all your suggestions. Unfortunately absolutely nothing has shifted it so we will have to take the suggestion of turning it into a custom art piece.
