To ask how you (personally) romanticise your own life?

Potentially light-hearted.

I’ve been thinking about the trend that’s been around for a while of ‘romanticising your own life’. I think many of us have done it for years without really giving it a name.

One friend could only do her homework by getting dressed up in a ‘business outfit’ (think 80s shoulder pads) and pretending to be a high-flying manager.

I used to pretend to be Dimsie or some such, doing my prep at boarding school before supper 😂

Those are just some study examples. What have you done, now or in the past, to make required tasks more fun? (I may or may not be asking because my entire house is a mess today.)

What’s the aibu?

I can see what you mean, but I don't really do this. I don't have a very vivid imagination Grin and tbh it would feel like adding an extra level of mental effort to the task rather than making it easier!

The one example I can think of is that sometimes when I used to go for runs along the Ridgeway (long, high path overlooking sweeping countryside in a kind of cinematic view) I'd kind of pretend I was on the cross-country rescue mission with Aragorn, Legolas and Gimli in LotR Blush

I was very surprised when I saw a similar question on another forum (in my own country). SO many admitted to pretending to be on some kind of tv show while cooking! You know - talking to the pretend camera, showing the ingredients, explaining along the way, that kind of thing. Bonkers!
I’ve been thinking about it for years!

As a kid I’d often pretend to be Terry Wogan AND glamorous Hollywood guests while in the bath.

When I was a child I used to pretend to be Jo March from Little Women or Sara Crewe from a Little Princess. (And later Jinny Manders).

Not so much as I am older but I do pretend to be in a cooking show when I cook- but mainly because i am planning to start my own youtube channel at the end of the year and am 'practicing'.

SpaceNambo · 11/03/2023 17:12

I've never done this but I've always fancied poncing around the house in a big floor-length dress.. Perhaps this is the year I'll run one up.. Grin

Slimjimtobe · 11/03/2023 17:14

I really don’t have the imagination for any of this but I have to say if sounds great fun 🤩

I use my voice, in that I tailor the way I speak in order to charm people a little, I do it in my personal and working life, it works.

Pretend to be a newsreader for clarity for work.
