Hello

i am size 20. I would very much like to be size 10. I am 5ft 8.

have taken steps in right direction but keen to know how long this has taken anyone IRL.

google takes me to surgery options which I’d rather not explore for now

I went from an 18 to an 8 (6 & half stone) took about 14/15 months to do on a low calorie diet

@100daykickupthearse

I don't see size 14 as big and much more achievable as an end goal

MsDeanna36 · 11/03/2023 13:08

The timeframe will depends on what lifestyle changes you make and how strict you are with them. Ive seen someone do that in about a year, but i have no idea what she was eating. What does your new food plan look like? Are you completely cutting out all processed food?

I set my fitness pal at 1400kcals a day, logged all my food, allowed myself to eat anything within those calories, and walked and walked until I was light enough to start couch25k and then I started running. I did not eat back the calories from exercise, so whatever exercise I'd done, I still ate 1400

That is phenomenal. Sounds simple, but I find it so, so hard to do! Well done, Relentless - I am in awe of your determination and willpower.

You generally drop a dress size with each 10lbs lost. Roughly. Obviously body shape is a factor, as is the shop you're buying from.

At 5'8 you'd need to be around 11 to 11.7st to fit into a size 10 (depending on the shop) - your BMI would be around 23 - 24. Haven't checked it on NHS app but roughly it will be around that.

So you need to lose 50-60lbs. This will take you 25-30weeks. So around 6 months - if you consistently lost 2lbs a week.

You'll probably find the first fews weeks you can lose 5lbs, 4lbs, 5lbs, 3lbs etc until it starts to trail off to 2lbs, 1.5lbs - but overall around 6 months - if you maintain a calorie deficit where you are dropping on average 2lbs a week for 25 weeks.

Hope this helps!

I'm assuming this is for a wedding dress or something similar?

It really depends on body size and shape. At size 14 I'm 14 stone and 5ft 2. I'm a mix of 14s and 16s at the moment, 15 stone, BMI 38.
I'd say size 14 is big for me as I'm obese at that size.
Other people will be a healthy weight and in a size 14

Don't think about how quickly you can lose it think about how long you can maintain it for.

95% of dieters regain the weight.

The quicker you lose it the more likely it is fir this to happen.

Long term weight loss comes from long term habit changes.

If you go on a diet for a year, lose the weight but then revert to old habits you'll be back to square one.

The only solution is to permanently let go of those bad habits.

All the tiny changes add up-
-walking as default
-regular exercise
-smaller portions
-cut alcohol
-cut junk food
-lots of veg

Good luck.

Hi OP. Everyone’s different but I went from 20st and a size 24 to 10st and a size 10 by healthy eating and exercise 80% of the time in 15 months.

TennisWithDeborah · 11/03/2023 14:50

I’ve dropped one dress size in two months (18 lbs lost). Intermittent fasting and lots of exercise has done the trick, but I eat what I like pretty much. If I’d cut/reduced bread and pasta I’d have lost more weight theoretically….but probably not stuck to it.

Murraydeservedit · 11/03/2023 15:10

I forgot to add, I lost ten stone in 18 months juat by diet.

I don’t exercise. I’ve only ever been off my arse if there is no other choice.

Bigfatchips · 11/03/2023 15:21

If I make quite a concerted effort I can lose 3lb a month and no more.

In my head it would take me a year to get down from a 16 to a 10.

100daykickupthearse · 12/03/2023 08:52

Thank you. Have read all replies and feeling positive. Going to start walking more, healthy food, watching calories and sign up to long haul change!

I am 5'7. I was a size 18/20 in August. I am now a size 10/12. I comfortably wore a size 10 pair of jeans out yesterday 🙂. It has taken me 7 months. I haven't 4 stone. Would like to lose another half stone.

QueefQueen80s · 12/03/2023 09:21

I went from 20 stone to 11 stone in 9 months, kept it off too. All diet and no exercise though I do exercise now.

StaceyMeloni · 12/03/2023 09:25

I went from a size 16 pushing 18 to a size 8 (I am short) in 6 months. It was brutal. No alcohol, very little food and a lot of exercise. This is a year ago and I have stabilised at a size 10. I still don’t eat very much and exercise a lot, but not obsessively so.

boboshmobo · 12/03/2023 09:32

My sister lost 8 stone in a year .. about 8 dress sizes

GoldilocksIsALittleSod · 12/03/2023 10:19

I am 5'10, I went from 17.5 stone to 11.5 stone in a year - the smallest clothing I could fit in at 11.5 stone was a 14.
I personally wouldn't set off with a dress size in mind, it might not be achievable for your body shape/type.
I also have a thyroid issue, between that and lockdown I have put every single pound of the weight back on. It's shit having weight issues!
