Period pants, has anyone tried multiple brands and found the best?

I've always just used tampons and pads, have to double up as one isn't enough.

DD is coming up on 9 so I've been thinking about period pants because they seem to be a good solution for starting out.

So I decided it would be a good idea for me to try a few brands to see which are best. So far:

Sainsburys Love Luna range, reasonably priced but a bit baggy around the gusset so ended up with leakage

Primark, cheap, better fitting but feel a bit bulky

What range have you found best, id like to avoid spending a fortune buying 20 different crap ranges before hitting on a good one if I can help it.

Cheeky Wipes without a doubt, closely followed by Primark for lighter days. Modibodi are terrible - very odd gaping fit around the gusset so they leak, and the full briefs are cut so high on the leg they leave half your bum cheeks exposed.

Yes the modi bodi ones don’t fit properly on my very flat bum so they are gappy. I’ve tried Primark and they leaked. The Cheeky ones are by far the best for me, they fit properly, nicely elasticated and don’t leak.

FatAgainItsLettuceTime · 11/03/2023 15:12

Oooohhh cheeky wipes do shorts which are my go to style and also part of the reason I want to move away from pads. It's getting more and more difficult to find pads without wings in shops and wings don't work on shorts so I end up with the damn things sticking to my thigh.

I've tried M&S, Wuka, and Modibodi. I like the Wuka and M&S ones best I think. Not hugely impressed with the Modibodi ones.

I have the M&S ones as well - I think I have a 3 pack which is 2 for heavier days and 1 for lighter days. I think they’re very comfy but on the first day I prefer to use a pad.

im curious as to how people wash them. I’ve been rinsing them out until clear then putting in the main wash. What do others do?

TeaPleaseTa · 11/03/2023 15:14

My 14 yr old likes the teen ones from Tu clothing. I have some called Tulip and they’ve been fine for me, maybe a bit lower rise than my normal knickers though.

KnockedOverSandcastle · 11/03/2023 15:16

I'm a size 24ish arse, with endometriosis and mega flooding.

I have some amazing Modi Bodi ones which have never leaked - I'm just realistic about when it'll be time to change, plus I use the loo a lot and find sitting there for a moment and gently pushing with my kegels helps some of the loss go down the loo.

Sorry if tmi.

I also have one pair of the Sainsburys-bought Tena (?) I think, which are boring and slightly bulky but really works, brilliant coverage.

I can't remember where my affiliated-with-Heartstopper one's were bought from, maybe Superdrug, but they're good albeit a little tighter than my others.

My youngest has some bulkier but cheapish multipack ones from some generic brand on amazon, which are apparently comfortable.

Eldest uses Modi Bodi boxers with tampons, though purely because of not being on top of changing times equalling several leaks.

Itsonlyagame · 11/03/2023 15:18

I am apple shaped and have both modibodi and wuka. The wuka ones are far superior. I have just ordered some m&s ones though so will be good to compare.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 11/03/2023 16:19

DD10 - tried Love Luna as they were available locally when she started. Not very good at all. Very thin fabric. Just didn't hold its shape and went baggy.

Consulted MN. Bought ModiBodi teen range boy shorts. Brilliant. Have given dd a lot of confidence around periods. Will replace with more of the same when she grows out of them.

GyozaGuiting · 11/03/2023 16:25

Another for the M and S range! They’re brilliant.

YouCantBeSadHoldingACupcake · 11/03/2023 16:30

I love my m&s ones they are so comfortable. Flowette are great too. Not a big fan of cheeky wipes ones, I don't like the material on the outside, but that is a personal preference. They do work well with no leaks.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 11/03/2023 17:15

II think the message to take from this thread is that different brands fit differently, so some suit some body shapes better than others, and others suit others. Like jeans, bras, shoes or any other clothes that really need to fit properly. People are different body shapes, who knew?

@Snoopsnoggysnog dd put them in a dry bag and I hung it all in the wash every couple of days. Sometimes by themselves, sometimes with other stuff. I don't view them as yucky or unhygienic. (I open the bag and the pants spin out). I soak them in Napisan from time to time.

DD has 9 pairs to get her through, as they can take a couple of days to dry.

TheIsaacs · 11/03/2023 18:12

I have the highest absorbency of Wuka and ModiBodi.

The Wuka pair fit the most snugly, even a little too snugly really, but never had any leak from them. I only wear them overnight, I find they chaffe a bit if I wear them whilst walking around.

Modi Bodi ones are looser around the leg and so don’t feel as secure sometimes but they’re very comfortable. Again, no leaks.

My dd has modibodi and primark. No complaints or speak of leaks from her about either. Went into primark though and they only seemed to now have boring plain black. Was going to try M&S or wukka next. Our Asda didn’t have any in to try.

Flipflops123 · 11/03/2023 18:31

Victoria's Secret PINK period pants. Still some in the Next clearance if you fancy a bargain!

recorderscansoundgreat · 11/03/2023 18:46

I'm finding this really helpful.

DD(10) is likely to start her periods within the year I think (given other puberty-related development). What size do other 10 year olds wear? (DD wears age 9-10 pants) I can see that M&S only have adult sizes.

Thanks!

OhmygodDont · 11/03/2023 18:51

I didn’t know next did period pants so I’ve just ordered some. Thank you!

primark my 9/10 year old when she needed them got a size XXS. And modibodi 10-11 years. I did have to do some googling to try and convert child age sized to adult.

JimnJoyce · 11/03/2023 18:54

vote for Modibodi here they have different styles and absorbencies. DD couldnt cope without them

Blaggingit123 · 11/03/2023 19:03

I have bought cheeky pants in a size 6 for my 9yo who I expect will start within 6 months (around 20 months into puberty since she turned 8). She’s about 5ft tall and 6 stone and wears mostly 12-13 clothes, but some xxs or xs adults which I think is equivalent to a size 4-6. I haven’t showed them to her yet (don’t want to stress her out) but I think they will fit. They were 5 pairs for £49 and feel quite thin/not too bulky.

Cornelious2011 · 11/03/2023 19:10

I find the primark ones great.

APurpleSquirrel · 11/03/2023 19:16

I've tried Modibodi & Sainsbury's Love Luna - Modibodi we're great to start with but the seal around the edges came away.
The Love Luna ones I can't where on their own but have good protection all the way up the back which most other brands don't. But they got holes after a couple of years & have had to replace.
However I'd also recommend reusable pads - the ones from Honour Your Flow are really good.

allofthelove · 11/03/2023 19:31

my daughter aged 11 uses the shorts modi bodi , never had a problem with them . life saver for us .

Glenthebattleostrich · 11/03/2023 19:34

i have a mix of wuka and cheeky wipe pants. Hated modibod and primark

Mummyoflittledragon · 11/03/2023 19:53

Surprised at the comments on modibodi. Dd has been using hers for 3 years, no issues.

Sahara123 · 11/03/2023 20:55

Heavy periods here , Ive found Modibodi are by far the best , no leaks , tried some M & S but can only use them around 3 days in as they leak . It’s difficult as we’re all different shapes isn’t it !
