Just that really.
Dsd is nearly 11 and is starting to develop.
Dh said about getting her first bra fit.
It seems the right age.
But where can we take her? M&S, JL?

Im sure i was the same age.
She does wear cami tops atm but im unsure if this is enough?

I don’t particularly celebrate birthday or Christmas which just goes to show you, each to their own. All the previous poster was doing was giving an option, not sure why it was jumped on.

Seems odd to be required to give specific examples of why it might be something to celebrate but for me personally my DC has very poor health and an impact of that is likely to be delayed puberty whilst the body concentrates its efforts elsewhere. So if DC body did start to develop, I’d gauge how DC felt about that but I can imagine offering a hot choc after shopping trip. Seemed a perfectly normal suggestion to me.

My example may be unusual but can equally imagine other parents doing this if there daughters felt unsure about their body developing as a way to reassure them it is a normal part of growing up.

Anyway, I hope the OP has a successful trip with her DSD. Sounds like a lovely step-parent.

Yep. I apologise. For the derail.

I jumped because sexualisation of children is a huge issue and the idea of celebrating with an 11 year old that they are coming of age makes me sick.

Anyhow, I'm sorry OP. What you are doing is actually lovely.

DD has had boobs since she was 9. The crop tops didn’t cover enough so she’s been in proper sports bras since about 10. They have foam inserts for better coverage and little “bounce”. (I’m a J cup so she’s pretty well developed at 12.) I just check they aren’t too compressing every few months and buy bigger if they are getting a bit tight.

(She started her periods at 10. Definitely didn’t feel like something to celebrate.)

What does "coming of age" even mean?

WhereAreTheChocButtons · 11/03/2023 15:22

Thank you.
The last hour its alk shes talked about. Googling bras (although bless her some are very lacy and not suitable ie wired )have said when younger ones are asleep we can sit and look at the styles she'll likely get so she has an idea.

We just measure at home. When they are growing, getting measured means they might get a bra to fit…. for about a week.

Between me and two teen DDs we have bras in every size possible between teeny tiny “don’t need a bra I just want one because my sister has one” 26Ds all the way up to 32E/Fs. So a ridiculous number of sizes and styles to have a go with!

JL should sort you out, but they had very little choice in small back sizes when we went.

If she’s slender, you might need a back up or top up option of a sports shop (we used Decathlon) and try on a lot of XXS crop tops / bralettes. They are maddeningly inconsistent in size, but there is at least a huge amount of choice:
