It’s our anniversary and it’s none refundable. Travelling from West Yorkshire. What do I do 😞

On the train? Can you go later?

Rewind20Years · 09/03/2023 23:57

Would be awful whatever way you would be travelling i imagine

Ellmau · 10/03/2023 00:19

Did you take out insurance?

HeddaGarbled · 10/03/2023 00:32

Amber warning ending around noon Friday, so travel after that. Though obviously watch the met office for updates.

ErrolTheDragon · 10/03/2023 00:33

Whereabouts in the lakes? The forecast I'm looking at doesn't look too bad from a bit later tomorrow onwards

AgeingDoc · 10/03/2023 01:00

It's snowing quite heavily in our little corner of the Lakes at present and it's very windy so there's been a lot of drifting and minor roads are blocked. Some of our friends in the next village had to abandon their cars and walk home tonight. It's forecast to stop in the early hours though and the weather should be quite nice by late morning. In all likelihood the main roads at least will be cleared by tomorrow.
Depends where you are going of course. If you're off to some isolated place down a single track road it's probably going to be a struggle but if you're heading for a town centre hotel in Keswick or Bowness or similar then I would expect it to be ok later in the day. I would just check the forecast and road conditions before you set off and see how your route is looking. Cumbria Roadwatch on Facebook is a good source of info and gets updated fairly frequently.
To be honest, it would be coming over the Pennines that would worry me more though. The A66 shut quite early on this evening so if you were planning on coming up to Scotch Corner and across then do check it's open again. M62 and then up the M6 might be better.
No point in making real plans tonight though as things could look very different by the morning. I hope you can travel safely and have a lovely weekend.

We are going to Windermere. Newby Bridge to be exact. I took out insurance yesterday but don’t know if it covers it.

I'm at the other end of the county but I've just checked the local news and traffic sites. Cumbria Council are saying all major routes except some of the fell roads have been ploughed and gritted and are currently passable. m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=pfbid0XL3yK19L1yZuhz3kugGKEVK3tR51XG1uPH31xeNnVHTvCup4vVZAktBhLnxtSMpXl&id=100064467860950
However, all the transpennine routes seem to be either fully or partially closed, so I think your big problems are likely to be nearer your end. It would probably be unwise to set off soon, but it could all be very different later. Weather is supposed to be better today though, so I'd just wait and check the roads again later.

gogohmm · 10/03/2023 09:42

By car or train? By car should be ok as the main roads will be ploughed and gritted overnight, by train is anyones guess

Moosey65 · 10/03/2023 09:49

I live close by. No idea whats happening on your side of the M6 but all roads appwar to be clear. Westmoorland Gazette saying no problems on the roads.

bananasinabowl · 10/03/2023 13:51

We are going by car. I think we should be okay? Im still not sure 🤔

I’m in West Yorkshire and it’s stopped snowing now and I think the roads are getting cleared. I would probably go

bananasinabowl · 10/03/2023 21:14

We made it. There was no snow on the M6 and there’s literally no snow here whatsoever!! Glad we managed to get here.
