I'd love any podcast recs - I love stories about people, kind of American Life, Wondery's Sweet Bobby style - although good crime, like Teachers Pet, is always enjoyable.

thanks so much

Hm what are you interested in? Red handed is great for true crime, as black hands about the bain family murders.

For politics the newsagents and the rest is politics are the best imo.

History wise the rest is history and history extra are good!

Let’s Not Meet is great. People write in to the host, Andrew Tate (NOT that Andrew Tate 😂) about real life creepy things that have happened to them.

paradise is a BBC sounds podcast and if you haven’t listened to it and you like true crime I’m jealous that you get to hear it for the first time. A couple went missing on their sailing trip and it’s an investigation of what happened to them.

True crime and cocktails is my favourite crime podcast

AinmÁlainn · 09/03/2023 22:53

They have finished making episodes now but Reply All was really good. Its mainly about internet ephemera. And I absolutely love Heavyweight which is harder to describe but sometimes beautiful and always interesting.

Who The Hell is Hamish? is also very good and only a few episodes.

Invisimamma · 09/03/2023 23:02

I've just listened to 'l am not Nicholas' and 'man in a bag on audible.' both good but I'm new to podcasts so I can't compare to much else.

I like Go Love Yourself too, it's body positivity, they have interesting guests.

RaininginDarling · 09/03/2023 23:43

I've just this second added this to another podcast thread, but: Stolen Hearts. It's one of the best true story podcasts I've listened to and ridiculously entertaining too.

Changeforachange · 09/03/2023 23:45

Following for recommendations...

But I'd also suggest Diary of a CEO. I love it.

Changedmymindtoday · 09/03/2023 23:49

I love morbid for true crime

Forkrightorf · 10/03/2023 03:01

I'm enjoying Criminal at the moment, it is sort of True Crime but not all bloody, gory murders. More like short-ish stories about people who have wronged, been wronged or have an interesting perspective on something - like police dog handlers, court room sketch artists, a bloke who robbed a few banks etc

Monkeytennis97 · 10/03/2023 03:22

For the Many is great for politics and irreverent chat, the hosts Iain Dale and Jacqui Smith are brilliant together!

user1477249785 · 10/03/2023 03:27

OP here's a thread I started a while back that has the most brilliant recommendations. I've been working my way through them and it's been hours of happy listening.

Root of Evil: Black Dahlia. Extremely well told.

I don't listen to that many podcasts, but do like Comfort Eating With Grace Dent and Books Unbound, which are both chatty.

StrictlyAFemaleFemale · 10/03/2023 05:29

There's a podcast section under film and television. Lots of recommendations there.

Morghulis · 10/03/2023 05:58

Shandee’s Story - it’s by the same guy as teachers pet. It’s true crime again but turns into a story about a corrupt dna lab - really gripping.

Other good true crime series - bear brook, Cold, the lady vanishes. Hunting Warhead is good but content warning for child abuse.

casefile for more Aussie true crime - the multi episode ones are really good such as Silk Road, Dennis Nilson and Golden State Killer but most are worth a listen

Radiolab for interesting non crime stories similar to this American Life - their earlier stuff in particular such as Colors, CRISPR, From Tree to Shining Tree, words, playing god.

Pennyplant19 · 10/03/2023 06:17

Fab post - got lots of recommendations thank you! I like Scotland Yard Confidential for true crime, and also Man in a Bag, and Death at Deepcut on Audible, although I did find the latter very sad. Injustice of a hanged man on BBC Sounds was really good too.

MissMissive · 10/03/2023 06:21

The Lady Vanishes. While it dates back to 1997, the podcast has resulted in an active investigation today.

otherusername · 10/03/2023 06:24

Marked Safe - about disasters but really interesting and sensitively done

Swearwolf · 10/03/2023 06:25

Armchair expert is fab, it's hosted by Dax Shepherd (married to Kristen Bell) and he has celebrity guests and other random guests. It has a couple of spin offs - one is the same hosts getting people to call in about embarrassing or amazing stories relating to whatever the theme of the episode is, the other is called flightless bird and it's a new Zealand guy living in the US exploring an aspect of American culture in each episode. All great!
