What’s the best/strangest destination for a wedding invitation?

We’ve just been invited to a wedding in Buenos Aires Argentina.

if we didn’t have kids we’d be sorely tempted but there is absolutely no way we can do it with the kids (and leaving them is obvs not an option)

it’s not just a random location, DH family member is marrying someone from Argentina, but I wonder what’s the best/most out there wedding destination you’ve been invited to - and did you go?

I thought this was going to involve wacky wedding venues like, I don’t know, public toilets or while skydiving or something. Buenos Aires is a bit of a comedown.

I’ve been to weddings in Delhi, Lisbon, Paris, Albania, a handfasting in Avebury Stone Circle, a Serbian Orthodox ceremony in Budapest, one in a circus tent somewhere in the New Forest, and a fun Jewish wedding with a dancing rabbi in the sculpture court of the V and A, but I don’t think any of them were that strange. We just got married in jeans with two witnesses, which some people find strange.

Maybe strange was the right word, but wow sounds like you have been to some incredible weddings.

nothing wrong with getting married in jeans 😀

I’m in UK. I’ve been invited to friend’s weddings in

  • New Zealand
  • India
  • France

In each case I was heavily in student debt and said sorry I can’t afford to come, and the couple got offended.

🤷‍♀️

I've previously attended a wedding at a working men's club. Also invited to one in my SIL to be back garden (but couldn't attend ). Both were in Scotland.
I've also been to sn evening reception at a zoo.

Battersea Power Station, when it was derelict.

Obviously not the point of the thread but I took young DC to Buenos Aires and it was fab. Yes, it's a long flight, it once you're there, you're there.

Shark Island, Sydney Harbour, which is tiny, and deserted except for a landing platform for the water taxi, a gazebo for the wedding ceremony, and stunning 360° views.

My best friend (from Nowich) got married in Canada where we both live, 14 hours from a major city in a tiny town at a waterfall that involved a 45 minute hike (in full wedding gear) to reach it. Was amazing though.

Oh we’d love to take them but the cost is massive for us. We have twins who are nearly 4 years old, flights alone will be nearly £5k.

its an amazing opportunity just a shame it outside of our reach at the moment
