Eurovision

Lighthearted (sort of) which is why I didn’t post in AIBU but lord above I’m so sick of hearing about the bloody Eurovision Song Contest. There seems to be a “story” about it every single day. Anyone else?

I don't mind the coverage , but the entry for the UK is very catchy and Dh and I have been 'singing ' it all day ! (This isn't a good thing as I can't sing ! Lol )
I think it'll be good for the tourist industry and good for Liverpool too.
I can sympathize if it's not your thing though and it will be relentless I'm sure

bellinisurge · 09/03/2023 19:42

Despise it. Always have. Since the 1970s. But I quite like Mae Muller so I might pay a bit of attention this time

FeltCarrot · 09/03/2023 19:42

Maybe it’s worse as I’m in the North West so the local news covers it too.
I'm really not arsed that Julie from Widnes couldn’t get tickets after spending 3 hours in a queue online.

I loved this year's UK entry on first listen which is very unusual for me.

It's a bit Dua Lipa-esque and very catchy.

Come on Mae 🇬🇧

the80sweregreat · 09/03/2023 19:46

I thought it was very Dua lipa as well !
I wasn't keen on 'space man, ' but sam did a fantastic job of being likeable and really worked hard out there in Euro land. He did deserve that second place.

FeltCarrot · 09/03/2023 19:48

No no no! You’re all supposed to agree with me that Eurovision is overrated shite, not actually like it! 😡

OP posts:
the80sweregreat · 09/03/2023 19:51

I can't agree as I do like it and all the fuss ..
although ( as I said ) anyone who hates it will need to just mute it or try to avoid for the next few months. Which I can appreciate is going to be hard especially as it's in the UK this time around. Sorry op ..

lmnabc · 09/03/2023 19:53

An uproar as tickets sold out in 36 minutes. I won't even be watching on tv

justcantgetenough · 09/03/2023 19:56

Whatever you do don't tune in to bbc1 at 8:55pm! I missed beginning off Eastenders due to them scheduling this extra show later.

I think the fuss is because we've not hosted it for ages and this is our only chance.

the80sweregreat · 09/03/2023 19:57

It is a bit of an institution now ; I can remember my own parents hating it and the cost etc.
I'm the same about football or any big sporting events that take up loads of tv time. My tv was off for weeks when the Olympics in london was on constantly on bbc !! At least it's only a few nights and they put the other bits on bbc three as well , so easy to avoid nearer the time.

Gooseysgirl · 09/03/2023 19:58

I bloody LOVE IT 🤣 I have been addicted to it since I was 5 years old. I like the song and I hope she does well!

the80sweregreat · 09/03/2023 20:01

It's just a bit of fun isn't it?
Makes me laugh and Graham Norton is funny
Love the wacky outfits too

Twizbe · 09/03/2023 20:03

Sorry OP but I LOVE Eurovision. It's one of the few things on TV that are just pure fun entertainment.

mathanxiety · 10/03/2023 02:11

Me too @Twizbe

I spend ages finding live (free) Swedish coverage online every year so I can watch it live as I'm in the US and also don't want to subscribe to any paid service.

RiverSkater · 10/03/2023 03:28

It's fantastic fun and we all need some of that right now.

I'm looking forward to it!

NatMoz · 10/03/2023 06:38

OP is a misery guts!

Eurovision is the most ridiculous, wholesome, outrageous show and is only once a year.

Only in Eurovision would you get songs about wolves eating bananas!

The US tried to do one (US song contest) but unsurprisingly the spark of Eurovision was missing.

By some miracle I've got tickets for one of the shows in May and feel giddy thinking about it!

the80sweregreat · 10/03/2023 10:50

I remember the show ' a song for Europe ' and people could vote for the UK entry.
Katie price once went for it once, heavily pregnant in bright pink ! She didn't win.
Terry Wogan also used to have a show a week before the actual final showing every entries video and his prediction of how it might do. He always backed the UK entry to win ( of course !)
(Or Ireland ,who did well years on the trot once.

I remember that. She looked like a Teletubby.

A couple from round the corner from me were on Radio Newcastle. They'd booked a couple of nights, £200 a night, in a terraced house in Liverpool. The guy told them he needed to cancel, to make a price adjustment.

to £41,000 a night!
