Kids Football Shirt size advice (first time buying)

Hi, I'm looking for advice on kids football shirt sizing. DS wants a PSG shirt for his 10th birthday. Nike size guide states Medium suits 10-12 years, but Sports Direct says Medium is 9-10 for for the same shirt ( the Stadium Fourth 2023 shirt). Given the price (and I'm customising it with player name/number) I'm worried about ordering the right size. He is average height (or maybe a tiny bit taller than average) and on the skinny side. Would Large be huge for him I wonder?

It's my first time buying a football shirt (newfound interest), so I'm totally clueless about which one to order and DS is very innocent so I'm worried he'll be teased if I buy the wrong one! The Home shirt 2022/2023 seems impossible to find in his size - is the Fourth Stadium shirt likely to cut the mustard?

I always buy big and everything related to football seems to come up small. (Don't get me started on football boots and shin pads!)

I'd have thought most kids won't even know what the current PSG kit looks like so I wouldn't worry about him being teased. My boys support different teams, neither of which is the big local team, neither one has ever had a serious problem with being teased about it, and it has helped them bond with certain other adults/teachers around who they know are also 'odd' in supporting their out of area team.

Agree with football stuff coming up small.
I also don't think sports direct are good at sizing!
Don't suppose there is a PSG shirt in stock somewhere local (uncustomised) that you could take a current teeshirt to compare side by side?

Buy bigger, and do you really want to personalise with a name, they have a habit of leaving!

Thanks for your replies - OK so I think sizing up is probably best. Good suggestion re checking local stores, there's a sports direct nearby so I'll have a look to see if they have any Nike football shirts in stock to see the sizes. Ooh I'm definitely having second thoughts about getting the player's name on the back, I will see if DS will be happy with it uncustomised to be on the safe side.

Definitely size up. Ds is 11 and I always get a
mens size small or even a medium in football stuff for him - he is quite a tall child, 5ft 2, but he prefers them slightly baggy.

Nike sizes are tiny.

Obviously depending on any safeguarding concerns, but you could get your child's surname on the back.

SouthCountryGirl · 09/03/2023 11:30

Is there a size guide on the PSG website?

That's what DS wanted to do originally actually, but I wasn't sure if that was a 'thing' (I genuinely am clueless about all this stuff🙈) - it might be an idea though. Every player that he likes in PSG is 'reportedly' on the brink of leaving 🙄

SouthCountryGirl - the size guide says Small suits 137 - 147 cm. DS is 144 so I'm on the fence

I have two kids and several nephews who love a bit of football merch - so quite a lot of experience of this. They come up small! Also, having your own name on the back definitely still a thing round here for 10 year olds and probably a safer bet than one of the players (though we've had several players leave clubs and kids still happy to wear the shirt).

I'd say you want a home (or at a push an away) shirt rather than a 3rd/stadium shirt. Our lot only get the third kit if they have the others too.
