The Sun have broken the embargo and released the act a day early - they are saying it’s Mae Muller. There’s discussion on Twitter about which one of two songs it could be. They’re both really unmemorable. ☹️

We don't have to win this year though. We get the credo of being the host, and having had a 2nd place that was basically a first by proxy.

PlaitBilledDuckyPuss · 08/03/2023 19:02

Perhaps those in the know don't want the UK to win and host two years running?

WeCome1 · 08/03/2023 19:08

I know, but being 5th or thereabouts would be fine? With this we’ll be bottom quarter.

It was said the Sam Ryder song won last year because it had been out there before the contest, building up a Europe-wide following. Can this be said of Mae Muller's songs (genuine question as I don't keep up with the modern music scene)?

Where did you hear the song? I can't find it on Twitter.

TikTok let me see if I can find links.

It’s either ‘I wrote a song’ (can’t find a link)

or

’I just came to dance’

Thanks, I found the other on Tiktok.

Yeah, it's nil point from me too.

WeCome1 · 08/03/2023 19:22

It looks like it is ‘I wrote a song’ (and it was shite)

Yes, I heard that too.

Not massively, the 14 yr old doesn’t recognise it.

Sam did so well because he got involved in the whole festival, tons of promotion and interviews to build up hype for the song. Made friends with and supported the other acts so they supported him in return. The uk delegates rarely do that. Plus he always comes across as such a nice and likeable guy. Acts tend to do well now if they have a good personality. The big Eurovision fans will be glued to all the YouTube and Instagram content for the duration of the contest which usually starts a week before the semi finals start

I don't mind it, it's not great but reasonably boppy and catchy. DH warmed to it once he realised she was the girl in that Mika song 😂. To be honest the standard of all the entries so far has been worse than usual. The only ones that stand out for me are Ukraine and maybe Switzerland. Australia, Slovenia, okish. Loreen's being touted for Sweden if she gets selected but I'm not rating her song.
